Midfielder completes season-long switch to NEC Nijmegen

25 July 2018

Reading Football Club can announce that 32-year-old midfielder Joey van den Berg has completed season-long loan paperwork which will see him return to his native Netherlands to play for NEC Nijmegen in 2018-19.

Van den Berg joined the club on a free transfer at the end of June 2016 and he went on to make 63(+5) appearances during his first two seasons as a Royal.

The former Heerenveen and PEC Zwolle midfielder scored two goals during that time – against Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup and a long-range effort at home to Barnsley last year.

Van den Berg extended his contract with the club by an extra year last September but will now spend this season in the Eerste Divisie as part of a side which finished third in the Dutch second tier in 2017-18.

Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish Joey the very best of luck with his loan move to the Goffertstadion.
