BEIJING, Nov.23 (Xinhuanet) -- China has pledged to provide free assistance worth 3.6 billion Renminbi, or around US$560 million to underdeveloped ASEAN member states in 2016. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin made the remarks at a press briefing on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings. He says China will also offer infrastructure loans totalling US$10 billion to Southeast Asian countries.
Liu Zhenmin also commented on China's construction on islands and reefs in the South China Sea. He said it was necessary for improving living conditions and fulfilling China's international obligations. And he criticized the United States for sending a warship within 12 nautical miles of a Chinese reef in the South China Sea.
