Since its inception in 2000, Strange Horizons has sought to encourage and support the widest possible range of new voices and perspectives across genres. We have also sought to provide a home for readers who want to step outside the boundaries of traditional (genre) fiction. We also aim to provide content to our readers free of charge while still paying our contributors professional rates, and we want to do all of the above while remaining volunteer-staffed and without being dependent on advertisers or corporate interests.

We've had more success than we could have ever imagined. In the last decade and a half, we've published exciting new material every week, and the material in our archives includes fiction and poetry from acclaimed authors such as Saladin Ahmed, Charlie Jane Anders, Christopher Barzak, Elizabeth Bear, Bruce Boston, Cecil Castellucci, Matthew Cheney, John Clute, L. Timmel Duchamp, Hal Duncan, Amal El-Mohtar, Carol Emshwiller, Karen Joy Fowler, Lisa Goldstein, Theodora Goss, Gavin J. Grant, Karen Healey, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, N.K. Jemisin, John Kessel, Meghan McCarron, Farah Mendlesohn, David Moles, A.J. Odasso, Tim Pratt, Adam Roberts, Benjamin Rosenbaum, John Scalzi, Nisi Shawl, Vandana Singh, Sonya Taaffe, Genevieve Valentine, Greg van Eekhout, Jo Walton, Liz Williams, and Jane Yolen.

Stories, poems, and non-fiction from Strange Horizons have been reprinted in major anthologies and been shortlisted for major awards, but even after all of that success, we haven't lost our focus on actively encouraging and publishing new authors. We bring you many of the brightest up and coming stars in the field of speculative literature.

A huge part of our success has been down to you, our readers, who enable us to keep our magazine going. Strange Horizons relies on donations in order to stay in business.
