    Flight Lieutenant Henry Birkland, was one of 19 men who were murdered 75 years ago today by the Gestapo after escaping from Stalag Luft III. He was regarded as the toughest tunneler of them all. Learn more here:

    On 31 March 1944 Squadron Leader Ian Cross, DFC was murdered by the Gestapo. In preparation for the Great Escape he led the ‘penguin’ soil dispersal team. Cross is commemorated ’s Poznan Old Garrison Cemetery:

    RT : Some of the challenges this week War Cemetery and Singapore Memorial. Our CWGC cemeteries are peaceful and tranquil but nature is far stronger than us. The good news is both the snake and lightning have now gone away.

    75 years ago Major Antoni Kiewnarski, Polish Air Force, was murdered by the Gestapo. The 45-year-old was one of the 76 men who'd escaped from Stalag Luft III. He is commemorated ’s Poznan Old Garrison Cemetery:

    RT : It's been many years driving along this road and he has never had a chance to walk in the cemetery but today he made it and lucky to meet with us,took him round and he was so impressed with the work CWGC is doing around the world.

    150 years ago today architect Sir Edwin Lutyens was born. He would go on to be commissioned by the Imperial War Graves Commission to design many of the cemeteries and memorials of – including the Thiepval Memorial. Learn more, here:

    One of my favourite dog walks at home includes passing the Lowestoft Naval Memorial. It commemorates 2397 men of the Royal Naval Patrol Service who have no grave other than the sea. During WW2 it was their job to maintain wartime patrols and safeguard the coasts of Britain!

    Erstwhile ambulance driver Fabian Ware’s heritage of the allows us to feel the human loss. For those serving you can’t help but wonder if you measure up to your forebears that have gone, and fallen, before. “Thank you” doesn’t feel enough.
