Music-mad sci-fi fan Tom Bingham has created a trilogy of Star Wars-themed electric guitars, including a modified Millennium Falcon.
The retired printer, 64, admitted he has an ‘obsession’ with making guitars and had spent the last 10 years scouring car boot sales and scrap yards for the required materials.
Mr Bingham, who is exhibiting several of his guitars in a gallery in Corby, Northamptonshire, said he had made around 20 guitars, including those in the shape of a cricket bat, a vinyl record and even the Large Hadron Collider.
‘I look at the whole world as if it can be turned into a guitar. If I can get a neck on it and hide the electrics then I create it,’ he said.
Mr Bingham admits the designs, which he considers art, are ‘outrageous’, even though some people think they are ‘rubbish’.
‘Each one has a life of its own, a different character, and that’s all I try and do – create something that looks good, sounds good and plays well,’ he added.
As well as the Millennium Falcon guitar, which includes flashing LEDs, Mr Bingham has made Anakin Jedi Fighter and B-Wing instruments.
His favourite, however, is a guitar made out of a cigar box, designed for a busker.
It includes features such as a built-in amplifier, a vanity mirror, a bottle opener, an alarm clock, a whistle, a lighter, a cigarette case, a tuner and a 12in cigar for ‘when you finally get the big contract’.View the story “#Starwarsguitars puns on Twitter” on Storify
