Our Mission

The Tuskegee University Police Department (TUPD) has jurisdiction over all campus grounds; remote research facilities; University owned housing units for off-campus students, staff and faculty. In order to provide safety and security of the public, TUPD Officers patrol these areas daily and respond to requests for service 24 hours a day.

Tuskegee University's Campus Police Officers are vested with law enforcement powers and responsibilities as that of a full police department. They are responsible for crime reports, investigations, emergencies, traffic accidents, and other incidents which requires police assistance. In it's commitment to providing safety and security to the campus community, the Tuskegee University Police Department (TUPD) will provide night escort service to any student or University employee (who is alone, on foot) who does not feel safe in reaching their on-campus destination at night.

The staff monitors state of the art electronic alarms and card keys systems and monitors all burglar, fire, and emergency alarms that are connected to campus facilities. The Investigations Unit investigates criminal activity coming to the attention of the Tuskegee University Police Department. The Investigations Unit is responsible for the follow-up investigations of felony criminal cases including the filing of documents necessary for successful prosecution. Primary activities of the Tuskegee University Police Department include the registration of all vehicles driven on campus by students, faculty, staff and visitors. All University employees and students are required to register their vehicles driven on campus.

The Tuskegee University Police Department (TUPD), in keeping with the standard police motto, "To Serve and Protect," is faced with a tremendous responsibility and an exciting challenge. The department has a total compliment of 33 full time employees and additional part-time employees. Members of the department are on duty 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Our responsibilities are similar to that of a municipal police department. In addition to enforcing the applicable state laws, the TUPD Officer must also serve as counselor, guardian, disciplinarian and advisor. Considering the high level of qualifications needed for a TUPD Officer, special attention is given to the application and selection process. The goal is to select the best qualified.

We greet the upcoming challenges with positive anticipation and an eager awareness. I wish you well as you continue on your educational journey.
