Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 16.2 +/- 0.2) on images taken on Aug. 4.12 UT; 2007gj was confirmed at mag 16.0 +/- 0.2 on an image taken on Aug. 5.01. The new object is located at R.A. = 2h19m33s.85, Decl. = -37o48'44".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 44" west and 22" north of the nucleus of Sbc-type galaxy ESO 298-28. Nothing is visible on an image of the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag 20.5) or on Monard's image taken on July 16.13 (limiting red mag 19.0).
