Ellison Goodall Bishop is one of the most celebrated female runners at Duke, and she is only the second woman to be inducted into the Hall. She earned track All-America honors in 1978 and cross country All-America accolades in 1977. In addition, she was an AAU National Champion and holds four outdoor school records.

Capturing her first major race in 1977, Goodall Bishop won the 1500 meters at the Colonial Relays and also finished fourth in the AIAW cross country national championships in that same year. A non-scholarship athlete who was at Duke before the school had a women's track program, she made her major mark in the sport in a six-day period in early June of 1978, when she came in fourth place at the Central Park Mini-Marathon in New York City with a time of 33:17 over the 6.2 mile course. She then captured the AAU 10,000-meter title in Los Angeles with a time of 33:44.2.
