Inspired by a recent post, I got this Eva phone case and love it. Feels nice too by zerquet in evangelion

[–]eppsnl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I've got the same case in black for my OnePlus Nord2 5G a few weeks ago from Ali Express. Only cost me around €5, but that listing appears to have been taken down since then.

Searching for "Nerv phone case" still gets me a few listings for iPhones. I also just noticed there is a Wille version which is still available for various iPhone, OnePlus and Xiaomi models. Not sure if I'm allowed to post direct links to these store listings on this sub, but this should be enough information to get people what they're looking for.

I like ccwgtv but the remote is horrible, can another remote be used? by [deleted] in Chromecast

[–]eppsnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware most bluetooth remotes can be used once paired to the ccwgtv. Personally I'm using a G20s Pro from Ali Express. It costs a mere €10 to €15, works out of the box once paired, comes with dedicated media control keys, backlit keys, and gyro emulated mouse input which can be toggled on and off. I've remapped the number keys through the open source Keymapper app to launch my favourite applications as well. Definitely a better experience than the original remote offers.

Girls of Reddit, what was one of the most obvious hints you've given to a guy you liked but it didn't work out for you? by brezoi_alexandra in AskReddit

[–]eppsnl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow oblivious guy here. I once had a girl I was dating over at my place for a dinner date. When she came in she said she wasn't hungry and wanted to skip straight to dessert. This confused me, but I was also kinda stoked because I had made my favourite chocolate mousse recipe and really wanted her to try it. Rosemary infused milk and extra chocolate, it just goes great together. She ate dessert, had coffee and left.

It took several days for me to realise my mistake. But for what it's worth, she did like my chocolate mousse.

Remap YouTube button without showing the choosing app screen? (CCwGTV) by Cayenne999 in Chromecast

[–]eppsnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I meant with you can't rebind the YouTube button, it will always open the official YouTube app or show the splash screen. Same applies to performing a long press on the Netflix button. /u/Droppedthe_ball recommended Keymapper which should be able to remap it fine and have it working. Haven't tried it myself yet but it's worth a shot.

Edit: my butter fingers pressed send prematurely.

Oh nice, and it's open source too! Definitely going to try this app this weekend. The more freedom to configure my devices the way I like the better.

[–]eppsnl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I set things up, but I recall you need the paid version of Button Remapper to change certain keys. Aside from that there are limitations on which buttons can and can not be remapped on the CCwGTV remote.

The YouTube button can not be remapped and will always launch YouTube or bring up the YouTube/YT Kids selection menu. The Netflix button can be remapped for single and double press, while long press will always open Netflix or the play store listing when installed. Home key can be fully remapped. Back key had some issues for me. Navigation keys can be remapped but obviously messes navigation up. Audio keys can only be remapped when controls are set to "Chromecast" style which breaks surround.

If you need more buttons you could use a different Bluetooth remote, try remapping the TV remote (only works for some keys and only if the TV supports CEC), or use a keyboard and trackpad/mouse. The latter is especially nice for using sideloaded apps, emulators and browsing the internet by the way.

Anyone else keep all their boxes? Or am I crazy by ToastPlusNine in Gunpla

[–]eppsnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply flatten my boxes and store them in a large storage crate in the attic. It takes up a fraction of the space and that way I can still use them for inspiration when re-posing or to put a build kit into storage.

As for spare parts and accessories, per kit I keep those in a ziplock bag along with the build manual, which then go in smaller storage crates sorted by grade and non-bandai. The manuals are thick enough to prevent parts from bending in storage and the bags mostly stay flat for easy stacking. My boxes and parts combined now take up just one shelf instead of an entire storage rack.

Can anyone help me with one issue. I have bought one external USB drive( male USB type c and 3 female USB) for my Lenovo duet Chromebook device. How can I set one of my ports for charging purposes only? and does Lenovo Chromebook devices support external USB charging? by OkAntelope1320 in chromeos

[–]eppsnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short: the Duet is (almost) perfect as a side device with a long battery life and long support cycle, but too cramped and underpowered as a primary device.

I mostly use mine as a tablet for web browsing, reading comics/manga, media consumption while traveling, and note taking and sketching with an USI pen. Everything works nice and snappy for these workloads, but for anything more intensive or involving heavy typing I prefer to switch to my desktop pc. Under this use case the battery lasts me for several days which is great. Being able to run and sideload Android applications is a huge plus to me, especially as the Duet is supported until 2028 where most affordable Android tablets never see a single update. It pairs great with my phone, including automatically tethering my mobile data connection when I'm traveling and notification mirroring.

The biggest downside of the Duet has to be the extremely limited I/O: just one USB C port. Past Lenovo convertible devices included 2 USB A ports on the side of the removable keyboard which was perfect for adding a mouse and external storage in a dock-like fashion. The lack of a MicroSD slot also feels limiting if you want to use the Duet as a traditional offline device. Finally there's no headphone jack, but you do get a dongle so there's that. None of these are limiting to me due to unlimited fast mobile data and having a home server, but definitely worth pointing out to others.

Misato katsuragi by tigerokko in evangelion

[–]eppsnl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

These are early Misato designs released in the Der Mond artbook. It's a nice piece of Evangelion history and quite affordable second hand. Can highly recommend at least browsing through a digital copy for plenty of "huh, that's neat" moments.

Edit: Der Mond, not Der Monde. Also it's on page 75.

Person who plays medic/support/healer in multiplayer fps game starter pack. (Appearance can differentiate from example provided if female/NB, but should be of equal attractiveness) by AlpaciusTG in starterpacks

[–]eppsnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let them break you mate. As a Medic main I know the unthankful struggle that is playing support classes. But do know whenever I play any other class I'll always help upgrade any gear at spawn during setup, Soldier whip you moving your gear to the front line and if necessary killbind to give you an instant 100 metal. At respawn I also make sure to upgrade any teleporters because those babies are game changing with how they lower downtime getting back to the fight post-respawn. It's rare, but we're out there.

Now, if only people in (casual) lobbies would actually react to spy call outs our lives would be so much better...

Have a new duet and I like it a lot, with one exception; I cannot get it to see my bluetooth headphones. (sony WH-1000X M3) by goldstarstickergiver in LenovoDuet

[–]eppsnl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same pair of headphones and a Duet. You want to turn on the headphones and keep holding the power button down for a few seconds. This puts the headphones in pairing mode after which you can pair and connect them to your Duet. The mk3 is limited to 1 active connection at a time, with a max of 10 stored pairings. The last used headphone settings (ANC, ambient mode, EQ etc) will be used on any device without (access to) the headphones app.

As for changing connected devices, I find it the easiest to turn my headphones on in pairing mode and then manually pressing connect on the other device. That's how I switch between my phone, Duet, desktop and Chromecast with Google TV. I find it a lot quicker and more reliable than disabling Bluetooth on every other device and then power cycling the headphones.

EVA-01 (and DC with stand and AT field): March 14th, 2020 https://bandai-hobby.net/item/3552/
EVA-02: September ??, 2020 https://bandai-hobby.net/item/3838/
EVA-03: No date or product page yet, probably somewhere Q1 2021.
EVA-08a: Winter 2020, no product page yet

Typically the full release date gets announced a few months in advance. Just keep an eye out on their product pages or a major retailer like Hobby Line Japan. Often you can already pre-order kits before the full release date has been revealed. Keep in mind these are the JP release dates. So unless you are importing a kit yourself it may take some time for a kit to become available at local retailers (if at all).

Owners of original Nokia 8, what's your upgrade path? by [deleted] in Nokia

[–]eppsnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my 8 since launch day and switched to the 7.2 last December. In terms of real world performance and battery life I find both devices to be very similar, except for the 7.2 camera actually being good and usable.

So yeah, just a side-grade to "fix" my 8's burned in screen, poorly aged battery and lack of Android updates. My use case doesn't involve mobile gaming or heavy apps anyway so I saw no point in wasting good money on yet another more expensive flagship specced phone.

So in short my advice would be to go with a phone that matches you actual use case. That way you can saveve yourself some money and spend it on things you need more in life.

Tech support f***** me by Smitty-Werbenmanjens in Nokia

[–]eppsnl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Retail value != Day value. Warranty or not electronics simply lose value with age and use. Your device is two years old, broke and could not be fixed or replaced with the same device under warranty. So instead you were given a device of a similar day value of your two year old used device. It's a fitting solution really when you think of it.

But depending on your local consumer laws, you could also refuse this fix. That would mean returning the 7.2 and getting your old device back unfixed, or returning the 7.2 and having the day value of your 8.0 refunded. But there's no way you will get a full refund after using a device for over two years. That's just not how this world works.

And here's some feedback to you: there is a subtle difference between proving constructive feedback and bashing something. Constructive feedback includes explaining flaws and providing methods of improvement. This could be basic pointers or resources on related techniques, pretty much like I am explaining to you right now. Blunt one-sentence remarks like "this is a waste of filament" however is not feedback. That's just you being a dick and you know it <3
