Fire Prevention Week: October 7 - 13, 2018

2018 Campaign
This year’s FPW campaign, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” works to educate people about three basic but essential steps to take to reduce the likelihood of having a fire––and how to escape safely in the event of one:
Look for places fire could start. Take a good look around your home. Identify potential fire hazards and take care of them.
Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm. You could have only minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Go to your outside meeting place, which should be a safe distance from the home and where everyone should know to meet.
Learn two ways out of every room and make sure all doors and windows leading outside open easily and are free of clutter.

Saturday September 8, 2018 - Throughout most of the afternoon, despite a few rain drops, the residents of Victoria Square development in East Allen Township held a festival in Venice Square. There was plenty of food, live music, activities for those of all ages, and a visit from East Allen Fire Department. Young and old had an opportunity to see the apparatus and equipment up close, and to meet and greet the firefighters and auxiliary. The Fire Department displayed Engine 4611, Tower 4621, Rescue 4641 and QRV 4642.

Thanks to the VictoriaFest Committee and the residents of Victoria Square for this fun event.

Fireworks Law

You may have heard that PA has a new Fireworks Law, and while the law now allows for consumer fireworks, it dose impose certain restrictions.

One of the most significant changes for law enforcement purposes is to permit Pennsylvania consumers to purchase and use “Class C” or “consumer-grade” fireworks that include firecrackers, Roman Candles, bottle rockets, and similar fireworks that contain a maximum of 50 milligrams of explosive material, which were previously not permitted in Pennsylvania.

The main restrictions of the new law are as follows:

  • Must be 18 to purchase/possess and use consumer fireworks

  • Cannot be used on public or private property without the express permission of the owner

  • Cannot discharge fireworks/sparking devices within or throw them out of a motor vehicle or building

  • Cannot discharge fireworks/sparking devices into a motor vehicle or at a person

  • Cannot discharge fireworks/sparking devices while under the influence of drugs or alcohol

  • Cannot discharge fireworks within 150 feet of an occupied structure

A person who violates these prohibitions may be charged with a summary offense punishable by a fine.

PC Beverage donation 'Boot' raises $10,000

Saturday July 29, 2017 - Firefighters recognize a local business as a Partner in Public Safety

PC Beverage donation boot raises $10-thousand to benefit East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department. On July 29, a group of firefighters set up displays of fire apparatus and equipment at PC Beverage, 5966 Nor-Bath Blvd, East Allen Township, Bath.

We wanted to recognize and extend our thanks and appreciation to Chick & Liz Leibig, the owners of PC Beverage for ‘The Boot’. Back in late 2009 Chick asked the Fire Department if we were interested in placing a firefighter’s boot at the checkout counter for customers to throw their loose change or donations into.

Needless-to-say we said yes, and the boot has done very well ever since. By May of 2014 the boot had collected $5,000, and this July the boot surpassed the $10,000 mark, and is still going strong.

Of course we also want to extend our gratitude to the many generous customers of PC Beverage who regularly contribute to our support. If all of this weren’t enough, Chick also donates water, soft drinks and ice for use at emergency scenes and public events at the fire station.

Chick & Liz Leibig and PC beverage, you are truly Partners in Public Safety.
