Little Astro Boy blasts off in 2019; first look inside
A couple of months back we showcased Little Astro Boy, a new take on the classic Osamu Tezuka robot superhero from the French studios Planet Nemo Animation and Something Big. Produced in collaboration with Tezuka Production and aimed at upper preschoolers, the new 11-minute 52 episode series will debut sometime in 2019. Here’s a teaser of what you can expect:
The eco-systems of planet Earth are endangered. Lucky for us, a super-powered robot boy is flying to rescue! astro in on a mission to help anyone anywhere in the world with a problem involving natural phenomena. Go little Astro Boy ! GO !
Production began in April before moving full steam ahead in June. Animation work is scheduled to go beyond February of next year. Virgile Trouillot handled the character designs and serves as the creative director. Little Astro Boy will be available in English, French and Japanese. The Weinstein Company has signed on to distribute the series internationally.
The latest iteration in the franchise that has generated over $2.6 billion in retail sales draws some inspiration from the earlier 2014 Little Astro Boy anime. Tezuka super fans may also notice the first animated appearance of Atom Cat (known as Astro Kitty in the English version). The project is independent of Caribara Production, Monaco’s Shibuya Productions, and Tezuka Production’s Astro Boy Reboot series.
