Whether we store them in drawers, scrapbooks, albums, wallets, on flash drives or cell phones, most of us keep a few photographs of moments to remember.  Some of these have strong family connections while other pictures remind of us good times or good friends or both.  It is these pictures of the times of our life that help piece together our story.

For the citizens and visitors of Jefferson County, its story can also be pictured frame by frame.  A look at the vintage pioneer snapshots reveals the are’s start and the visions shared by so many early settlers, who created the groundwork for the buildings, communities, and life for the generations who followed.  The pictures capture so many moments in history as each tells its tale-changing architecture, the evolution of man, machine and lifestyle-flowing into the future.

Looking for a quiet getaway, check out the state recreation parks, campgrounds, and the water sports, fishing, and fun that go with this.  Looking for excitement, catch the races at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds or experience the thrill of  the hunt during quail, pheasant and deer season.  Join in come good old-fashioned fun at a local festival like the Rock Creek Trail Days, Rock Island Rail Days, Diller Picnic, or the Steele City Flea Market.  Still seeking more?  Spend time at the Trail of Treasures along Heritage Highway 136 on October 5-7, 2018, Jefferson County Fair with Midwest Midget USAC Championship and Shriner’s Annual 4th of July Flea Market in the Fairbury City Park.  Live history for a day by taking in Rock Creek State Historical Park, the Rock Island Depot, Fairbury City Museum or the Living History Weekends in Steele City’s historical District.  Looking for real adventure compete in our Annual Run, Row, Rock & Roll Adventure Race and for the kids there’s the Youth Adventure Race in June.   Plus SHOP & STAY MAP OF DOWNTOWN FAIRBURY !

So whether you capture the moments on film or video, Jefferson County presents lots of chances to catch the times of your life in sharp focus.  Though a lot a has changed over the decades, the really important things remain the same for the residents and visitors of Jefferson County.  It is always picture perfect.


Call for Entries – 2018 Jefferson County Photo Contest

We are always seeking photos of Jefferson County, it doesn’t matter if you’re an amateur or professional – we’d like you to shoot us . . . er, rather Jefferson County, Nebraska. The Jefferson County Visitors Committee would like to add to their collection of photographs showcasing locations, towns, historical markers, events, really anything in Jefferson County!  The pictures will be used with your permission on our website and in next years GO Guide or on the cover!  To submit your pictures simply email  or drop a CD off at the Chamber office at 518 E St., Fairbury.  Questions call 402-729-3000.
