- QPR clinch Deadline Day signing of Abdenasser El Khayati from Burton Albion
- Winger pens two-and-a-half year deal
- 'Nasser' will wear number 19 at Loftus Road
QPR have completed the signing of wide-man Abdenasser El Khayati from Burton Albion.
The Dutchman has penned a two-and-a-half year deal at Loftus Road after Rangers agreed an undisclosed fee with the League One side for his services.
The move reunites Nasser – as he’s affectionately known – with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who signed the player just over a year ago from Dutch third tier side Kozakken Boys.
In truth, El Khayati has flourished ever since, playing a pivotal role in the Brewers’ recent rise to the summit of League One following their promotion last summer, scoring eight goals in 26 appearances from a wide midfield role this season.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, El Khayati expressed his delight at linking up with Hasselbaink once again, commenting: “I am very happy to sign for QPR and work again with Jimmy.
“He has been a big help for me on and off the pitch during my time here in England. I have developed as a player with him and I am looking forward to continuing to improve at QPR.
“Hard work has got me to this stage in my career but I want to progress even further now.
“I found my way at Burton and I am confident I will find my way with QPR. I am more than confident that I can do it and with hard work, I believe I will have a positive impact here.
“I am excited about playing for QPR and can't wait to show the supporters what I can do.”
A protégé of Hasselbaink, the R’s boss is excited about bringing El Khayati to Loftus Road, commenting: “I know him well and he's a good character. He wants to work hard and wants to keep improving.
“He's a very technical player – something totally different to what we have here. He likes to take people on and create.
“He's a wide player, who can also play off the front if we need him to. He prefers to play from the left because he can go both ways – in or out.
“He is a player that the supporters will like. He's from Moroccan origin, so he tries to play with that flair.”
Hasselbaink added: “This will be a step up – there’s a lot more to come from him – but we are confident he can continue to improve here.
“He's somebody that I firmly believe will succeed at QPR. He really wanted to come here and play for the club.”
El Khayati will wear the number 19 shirt at Loftus Road.
