U.S. Representative

Proudly Serving Florida's 15th Congressional District

Committee

SHARE

I am honored to serve on the House Committee on Financial Services (FSC) and as Vice Chair of the FSC Housing and Insurance Subcommittee. I am also proud to serve on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (OGR), as well as a Senior Deputy Majority Whip, during the 115th Congress.

On the Financial Services Committee, I serve on the following subcommittees:

Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance (Vice Chairman)
The Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance has primary jurisdiction over all federal housing programs, excluding those administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. This jurisdiction includes, but is not limited to, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, construction issues, and mortgage insurance. With regards to insurance, the Subcommittee covers all insurance programs and markets in which the federal government plays a role such as flood insurance, terrorism risk insurance, and others.

Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit
This subcommittee oversees all financial regulators, such as the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, all matters pertaining to consumer credit, including the Consumer Credit Protection Act, access to financial services, and the safety and soundness of the banking system. Protecting consumers and ensuring Americans have access to safe banking systems must be a national priority, of which I promise to preserve and advance.

Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
As a member of the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee, I will conduct oversight of agencies, departments and programs under the FSC’s jurisdiction. This subcommittee further conducts investigations on any matter within the jurisdiction of the FSC, and evaluates the need for any legislative changes to the laws and programs within this jurisdiction. I hold this position with the highest honor and integrity, as we must hold agencies and departments to the same standard in order to eliminate fraud, waste, mismanagement and abuse by large government bureaucracies.

On the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, I serve on the following subcommittees:

Subcommittee on the Interior, Energy, and Environment
This subcommittee has oversight jurisdiction over the Departments of the Interior, Energy, and Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency. The responsibilities of this subcommittee align very well with much of my expertise and the interests of Central Florida the Tampa Bay Region. District 15 is blessed with a strong agricultural presence and issues related to our public lands, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) greatly affects the cattlemen, citrus growers, and other specialty crop producers I am proud to represent. In fact, after my first election, I quickly set up a meeting with the former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to discuss the impact this out-of-control agency and its burdensome rules and regulations were having on Florida. Additionally, as an avid outdoorsman and Chair of the House Recreation Vehicle Caucus, I have worked closely with the Department of the Interior to ensure our public lands remain accessible and useable to American people.

Subcommittee on Government Operations
As a member of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, I will work hard to guarantee the American people have access to critical information about the operations of their government. With jurisdiction over the Department of Treasury, the Executive Office of the President, the Postal Service, the Department of Labor, and the Office of Management and Budget, this subcommittee ensures federal agencies are open and transparent in their execution of federal law, and that Americans will be able to more effectively hold public officials accountable with the knowledge that access to information provides.

As a Senior Deputy Whip, I have the unique opportunity to drive legislation

I am honored to serve as a Senior Deputy Whip with Majority Whip Scalise. My position as a Deputy Whip allows me to serve as a conservative Floridian voice at the leadership table. The role of the Senior Deputy Whip is to understand the issues that are important to the district of each Member of Congress. This information helps ensure that the legislation on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives best reflects the interests and values of constituents from Tampa Bay and Central Florida and across America.
