- August 2018 was 5th hottest August on record for the globe
The average global temperature in August was 1.33 degrees F above the 20th-century average of 60.1 degrees. This was the fifth highest global temperature for August in the 139-year record (1880–2018). Last month was also the 42nd consecutive August and the 404th consecutive month with temperatures above average.
- Evaluating Hurricane Florence Damage From Air
On Sept. 15, NOAA collected emergency response imagery from Cape Henry, Virginia, to Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. During the mission, images are updated every 12 hours, which includes flight time and processing time. - Counting belugas, cleaning beaches: NOAA’s aquarium partners engage the public in marine conservation
Throughout the month of September, NOAA Education’s partner aquariums will be holding events that engage the public in protecting coastal and marine ecosystems. From finding endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales with the Alaska SeaLife Center to cleaning up the Tampa beach alongside The Florida Aquarium, people across the country have the opportunity to connect with their local aquariums to make a positive impact for the ocean.
