KARACHI: A photo of Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane became a subject of much fanfare and speculation after it was posted and then quickly removed from the Facebook page of Dubai-based photographer Paul Aiken on Thursday.

Here it is:

As you can tell, there is good reason for it to go viral. Not only does the VJ-turned-TV star look stunning but the photo is also indicative of Mawra’s look in her upcoming Bollywood film. And when contacted, she confirmed that the picture was indeed part of a photoshoot for her debut movie.

“This is not the official poster. It’s one of the shots from the shoot,” she told The Express Tribune from Mumbai where she is currently busy working on the film. As to the removal of the photo from Paul Aiken’s Facebook page reportedly due to negative comments on the post, Mawra clarifies: “It has been removed because the press release has been delayed by a week. There’s no other problem.”

She also revealed that her debut Bollywood film will feature Telegu actor Harshvardhan Rane opposite her. This will also be Harshvardhan’s first Hindi film. He was earlier supposed to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone starrer (and now superhit) film Ram Leela but that didn’t work out.

Mawra and Harshvardhan

According to a Times of India report published in March 2014, Harshvardhan’s debut Hindi film is titled Satra Ko Shadi Hai which is to be produced by John Abraham. Whether Mawra is part of the same film or not is unclear.

“All the details will be shared at the film’s press event which will take place within this month insha Allah,” Mawra said. That is also when her film’s poster will be unveiled. The film is expected to be released in September this year.

“It’s a beautiful love story. I can’t wait till September,” she added. “It’s a beautiful love story. You may compare it with Aashiqui 2. I wish I could share more.”

Talking about her co-star, Mawra said that Harshvardhan is a tremendous actor. “He will win hearts in India as well as Pakistan.”

The cast and crew are headed to Cape Town in a couple of weeks for the final schedule of the film’s shoot. Meanwhile she is grateful for her fans’ love. “I am very proud of my fans and family’s constant support.”

But this is not it. Her debut film hasn’t even released, yet Mawra has already signed two additional film. Her other two films are also Bollywood projects. “I will share the details of my other two films after the press event of the first one,” she said. “I am learning new things everyday and I am more than thankful for getting to live my dream at this age.”

When asked if she would consider working in Pakistani films, Mawra said, “I want to do a film with songs and one that has a strong script. I haven’t come across any such projects in Pakistan.” She is quick to add though that she is proud of her sister Urwa who made her film debut with last year’s Pakistani blockbuster Na Maloom Afraad. “She is working on Pakistan’s best scripts while I work on my first love story here,” Mawra said.

“I will definitely work in a Pakistani film. But right now I have three films to deal with. Insha Allah as soon as I am done with them,” she concluded.

And you enjoying the same movies and then saying InshaAllah (to something “appropriate”) is better than that? It’s hypocrites like you who thoroughly enjoy all the drama serials, movies, music etc. but consider the performers of these arts as lesser humans, at least morally.

Work in bollywood as much as you want but why shed clothes?
Is nudity necessary to work and to be successful in Bollywood?
There have been successful actresses known for the grace and high mindedness.

    WHY SHED CLOTHES?Recommend

Best of luck Mawra! When I saw her in “Yahan Pyar nahi hai” I knew she would be great! She’s a diva and she deserves all her success. For those complaining about showing flesh and what not, dont watch her movie then. Simple. But keep your morals to yourself and dont try to impose them on the rest of us as we are not interested. Good luck Mawra!Recommend

Nice to see Pakistani actresses branching out into Bollywood. Let’s face it, TV is the only proper medium in Pakistan – going to Lollywood is like signing a contract saying you will be a C-Level performer. Bollywood is way ahead of us in terms of standards so good on Mawra for taking the plunge and signing some films in Bollywood. As for the maulvi-wannabes talking about how this is not pure or flesh being shown, you will be the first ones to rent her movie or go to the cinema to see it so please put a lid on your hypocrisy.Recommend

@James.Two Nation Theory is alive and kicking. Many of these across the border exports are going to figure it out sooner or later; that’s if they already don’t know. These folks do not represent the actual culture of Pakistan on ground. All we can do is ask for respect for women here and there.
Plus doing business with India has no bearing on Two Nations Theory. Recommend

Heartbreaking that our stars lose their personality just for the sake of money, pride and fame.
Being a part in vulgarity with bhangis.

@James: 2 nation theory was the best solution thanks to the attitude and role played by the congress politicians and their cronies. Presence of Pakistani artists in Bollywood is not meant for undoing the “theory”, it only indicates business between two states purely arranged between two parties. you will understand my point better if you can allow your thoughts to go a little further! Yeah, the grapes in India are very sour and you, my dear fellow, are speaking of “conquest”. Your madrassa brain does not comprehend the fact that Pakistani actors, sportsmen, medical patients, businesspeople, etc. are lining up to get entry into the gates of India because they have zero opportunities in their own “paradise” in which you also live, oh day-dreaming Karachite. India has to just slam the door in the face of all Pakistanis (including your sisters from Lollywood) and they will face the end of their careers and their search for the gold pot in India. Then, dear madrassa-man, you can continue your dream of conquering India. Recommend

@Hassan: You’ve so evocatively mentioned “Being a part in vulgarity with bhangis.”. Incredible! I haven’t heard that word (‘bhangi’) being uttered for any human being by the educated in polite company, and I presume ET is polite company, for decades now in India. It is supreme irony that the country that had institutionalised untouchability has learnt to abhor it over time under influence from Islam, apart from Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity & Sikhism, and has shed that pejorative from daily vocabulary, while a Muslim from Pakistan still merrily uses it!Recommend

It is interesting to read the comments after all these years there is still a contest between India & Pakistan over the most childish things, instead of seeing the good in both countries some of the comments is like watching young children brawl about nothing. The exchange of talent is good for both countries India can appreciate the immense talent in Pakistan and as Pakistan already been enjoying the Bollywood films can we all wear our grown up shoes and stop with the bickering about two state solution, nudity, security risk support each other you all will enjoy it more !Recommend

She didn’t learn a single lesson from Humaima. She is also going there to work in B grade films in BW while her career chart is rising in Pak. Now she’ll fail there and come back with her tail between her legs, as over half her fan base at home evaporates overnight and she will be called a B grade actress for life.Recommend
