Street MaintenanceIn 2014 the City of Duluth created the Street System Maintenance Utility. The purpose of the utility is to provide the necessary funding to ensure a safe, well maintained street system. A well maintained street systems promotes the development and maintenance of economic, cultural, and community as well as the healthier, safety and welfare of the city's residents.

The funds collected by the utility are used for operating and maintenance costs incurred by the city for the repair, sweeping, plowing, grading, and striping of the city's streets. Funds from this utility are also used for traffic sign replacement, right-of-way maintenance such as mowing and brush removal, culvert repairs, guardrail and other protective barrier maintenance and repair including tree replacement.
