How would you compare Khovnanian Homes vs Ryan Homes?
There both bad. As with the other national builders they only benefit the stockholders.
They supply the materials, some substandard and then hire the cheapest contractors in the area, substandard as well. Who suffers here is the home buyer. Unfortunately many developers, those that own the land, invite these builders to do the home construction because they know how to stage a house and spit them up fast. Every home they sell is money to the developer for he makes money on the lot sale.
The developer builds a clubhouse, starts an HOA to attract potential customers that see every lawn nicely cut. These HOAs only run well when the developer is running it. Dues are the lowest, homeowners aren't hassled and clubhouse repairs, say the AC for example, are fixed swiftly. He knows that potential customers will talk with the new residents regarding there take on the community.
Best to buy an older well built resale in an area without an HOA. What you see around you is what you get.
No false promises of landscaping or other things that never happen. You can join a club with a pool and hire or fire your own landscaper.
