D.C. United trades 2nd-round draft pick for Dynamo goalkeeper Chris Seitz

The two-part trade involved United, the New England Revolution and the Houston Dynamo. United first traded a natural 2020 second-round pick to the Revs for their 2019 No. 33 overall pick and 2020 natural 3rd- and 4th-round picks. United then immediately traded that No. 33 pick to Houston for the rights to Seitz. 

 

“We are excited to acquire a player of Chris’ experience level in Major League Soccer,â€? D.C. general manager Dave Kasper said. “He has over 100 appearances in this league, and we’re looking forward to adding him to the roster for 2019.”

 

Seitz, 31, will back up United’s Bill Hamid, alongside Earl Edwards Jr. Goalkeeper David Ousted is currently under contract with the club, but a move is likely according to reports from Washington Post Steven Goff. 

This move all but ends David Ousted's stay in DC. He'll probably get traded soon. Could end up overseas.

Real Salt Lake drafted Seitz in 2017 from the University of Maryland with the fourth overall pick in the draft. In three seasons with the Utah side, Seitz recorded 19 saves in seven regular-season appearances and was part of the 2009 MLS Cup champion roster.

Seitz moved around after leaving RSL, playing for the Philadelphia Union, Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas before landing in Houston in 2017. Seitz has also won two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup titles and an MLS Supporters Shield. He will join D.C. United Jan. 21 for the start of preseason training.
