More About Some of Our Community Partners

Project Connect
Women Writing for (a) Change® has partnered with Project Connect through Cincinnati Public Schools to address the needs of children at risk for homelessness. Project Connect is a program of Cincinnati Public Schools, serving over 2,000 homeless children in the greater Cincinnati area. Project Connect’s mission is to keep students connected to their education by providing advocacy, enrollment assistance, transportation, enrichment, and after-school activities.

Both WWf(a)C and Project Connect are dedicated to giving voice to traditionally silenced individuals. Since 2004 these organizations have collaborated to offer weekly writing programs at homeless shelters and in high schools during the school year.

Our current programs include writing groups in two Cincinnati Public Schools – Western Hills University and Woodward High School. We also participate in the Project Connect Summer Camp. During the school year, from January through May, our WWf(a)C facilitator meets once a week with each group of young women for one-hour writing sessions following WWf(a)C practices of building community, confidentiality, group sharing, and positive feedback. At the end of the program, Women Writing for (a) Change also hosts a readaround for the participants and publishes an anthology of writings by the young women in our groups.

Girl Scouts of Western Ohio
Women Writing for (a) Change is a 2014-2015 Premier Partner of the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. We offer badge completion programs for Girl Scout troops or individualized programs based on the needs or interests of a troop. We also offer young women’s programs throughout the year on various topics that may help Girl Scouts achieve badges or acquire desired skills to help reach their goals.

Pleasant Ridge Montessori
Since 2011, Women Writing for (a) Change has partnered with Pleasant Ridge Montessori to offer multi-week sessions during the school year for girls and boys enrolled at the school. Programs follow the processes and practices of a typical Women Writing for (a) Change circle, including the creation of a safe and confidential space where participants may develop their writing skills, cultivate their creativity, and strengthen their voices.
