Emily Susan Pressman, the daughter of Norma G. Pressman of Wilmington, Del., and Dr. Norman J. Pressman of Glencoe, Ill., is to be married today to Yoni Asher Appelbaum, a son of Diana Muir Karter Appelbaum and Dr. Paul S. Appelbaum of Newton, Mass. Rabbi Charles H. Sheer is to officiate at the Faculty House at Columbia University in New York.

The bride and bridegroom met at Columbia, from which the bride graduated summa cum laude and the bridegroom magna cum laude.

Mrs. Appelbaum, 23, received a master's degree in civil engineering in May from Columbia. Her father is the president of MonoGen, a maker of medical devices and diagnostic equipment in Vernon Hills, Ill. Her mother is a psychologist in the Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington.

Mr. Appelbaum, 24, is the executive assistant to Betsy Gotbaum, the New York City public advocate. In August, he is to become a student in the doctoral program in American history at Brandeis. His mother, an author known as Diana Muir, wrote ''Reflections in Bullough's Pond: Economy and Ecosystem in New England'' (University Press of New England, 2001). His father is the chairman of the psychiatry department at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester; he was the president of the American Psychiatric Association from 2002 to 2003.
