Even after their stunning music debut in 2018, drag and hip-hop star Aja is hungry for more. With just one week left until the release of their debut album, the star is teasing fans with a new video for “Jekyll & Hyde.”

The video shows Aja as a scientist performing experiments on the song's featured guest, rapper Shilow. As they try their hand at helping Shilow through his emotional troubles with chemicals and therapy, Aja ultimately dons a pope-like costume and expels the rapper’s inner-demons through an exorcism, all while spitting some of their slickest and fastest rhymes to date.

In a statement released with the new track, Aja said “Jekyll & Hyde” is ultimately about coming to terms with your inner emotional state. “It was like this moment of embracing and confronting my inner demons,” Aja said. “Reflecting on where I come from, and how I've dealt with fame over the past couple years, how it's changed my perception on creating the art I want to make.”

The drag star added that while Shilow is made out to be the villain with demons needing expulsion, Aja appears on screen in a straitjacket, clearly unable to do the same for themself. “You realize I’m trying to expel Shilow's demons but have no intentions of expelling my own,” they said. “The video is about good vs. evil, perception vs. reality and all the experiences that shape how we see the world.”

The track comes from the rapper’s highly anticipated debut album Box Office, which is set to be released Thursday. The album will be Aja’s most ambitious project yet, with features from hip-hop stars like CupcakKe, Rico Nasty and Lady Luck, along with fellow drag star Shea Couleé.
