Schuylkill Crossing

The goal of extending the trail to Bartram’s Garden requires a link from the Grays Ferry Crescent to the west bank of the Schuylkill. Work is underway to build a new, fully operating swing bridge that will meet ADA requirements and provide easy access across the river for pedestrians and cyclists.

The feasibility study for the project was funded by DVRPC and DCNR, and was completed by Amman & Whitney. Construction funding was provided by the Commonwealth of PA, the City of Philadelphia and the Transportation Improvements Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program funded by the Federal Highway Administration.

PROJECT UPDATE 8/23/2018: The cranes removed the existing truss bridge to make way for the new swing bridge.
