Graduates of geography and environment have a variety of career options. Among these are work with provincial, federal and international government agencies, non-government organizations, and consulting companies. Many of our graduates pursue further education at the graduate and professional-school level. They found their education especially well recognized by schools of planning, geography, environmental studies, forestry, geographic information systems, business, education, public administration, and law.

Malcolm Elliott

Highlight: Spending the 2016-2017 school year as the President of the Geography & Environment Society, as well as going to Montreal with Dr. Reiffenstein’s research course.
Since MtA:
• 2017-2018: Advanced Diploma in Geographic Sciences, Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS), Lawrencetown, NS.
• June 2018 – present: LiDAR & Remote Sensing Analyst, Leading Edge Geomatics, Fredericton NB.
Future Plans:

Rachel Singleton-Polster
BA in Geography and Indigenous Studies (2013, specially approved)
Project: Sense of place on Haida Gwaii
Supervisor: Dr. Leslie Kern
Highlight: The flexibility that the Geography & Environment Department offered me through my studies was invaluable. I was able to use credit from a field studies course on Haida Gwaii in Natural Resource Management which counted as a large part of my degree. I was also able to combine courses from a variety of disciplines to complement my studies, as there was no Indigenous Studies Department at Mount Allison at the time.
Since MtA: After MtA, I worked on Haida Gwaii for an outdoors and cultural education program, and then continued on to work at the United Nations on human rights and peacebuilding issues. This led me to where I am now, working on Indigenous rights for the Union of BC Indian Chiefs—a grassroots Indigenous advocacy organization which promotes and protects the inherent Title and Rights of Indigenous Peoples in BC. I’ve stood on the front lines of struggles against major resource extraction projects, including the Site C Dam and the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline. I continue my work at the UN, assisting Indigenous Peoples as they call on States to respect their inherent human rights.
 
Daniela Fernandez Rodriguez

Highlight: The quality of the guidance and support provided by our faculty members is unique across post-secondary institutions. My professors were always accessible, dedicated, and excited to share in our passion for our work.

Paul MacKeigan
Degree: BSc Honours Environmental Science, Minors: Biology and Geography (2017)
Project: Legacy effects of DDT on Cladoceran assemblages from north-central New Brunswick lakes
Supervisor: Dr. Josh Kurek
Highlight: Working for Dr. Kurek as a bio-monitoring assistant after my second year. I sampled dozens of lakes across the New Brunswick landscape. Other highlights included the numerous opportunities I had to present my honours research at conferences in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick.
Since MtA:
• Summer 2017: sampled lakes throughout Ontario and Quebec with the NSERC Lake Pulse Network
• September 2017: started a master’s degree in biology at McGill University with Dr. Irene Gregory-Eaves. I am studying cyanobacteria distribution and dynamics across Canadian lakes with the Lake Pulse Network.
