Tribe: a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a leader.
The KNDO was formed in 1947. The main purpose of forming the KNDO is to defend the Karen people from ethnic cleansing, persecution, atrocities and killings by the Burmese military. The KNDO's main objectives are:
1. Self Determination
2. Freedom for the Karen People
3. Recognition of Karen State
4. Equality
5. Democracy
6. Federalism
7. Political and Human Rights
