Nox is what i use, but i also had to do some stuff to use the Nova Launcher instead of the Nox's inhouse launcher. I installed a 3rd party root-capable file browser, installed nova launcher and set it to the default and renamed the nox's launcher from .apk to .apk.bak, *don't delete it*
And then it worked perfectly without it installing random crap. And without it setting the nox launcher back to default automatically.
I used CMFileManager-3.0.0-CM12.1.apk, which i think was the file manager that came with my cyanogenmod version of android for my amazon fire tablet. It's a file manager that actually has proper root access.
Install nox
google play store, install Nova Launcher
Install CMFileManager (i'll upload it)
make sure Root/Superuser is enabled in settings
Goto /system/app
rename Launcher_*_signed.apk to .apk.bak at the end. but don't delete it. just add .bak
