Is SWF Emulation Possible?
« on: November 10, 2013, 01:14:14 AM »
A while back I heard talks about a swf player for the DS, According to people it barely worked Due to frame-rate and audio issues. Of course I am aware that GCW might have the same issues. But seeing how some one already made a HTML5 player (Webplay) I was wondering if it was possible?

Wait, I was certain I was in the right section when I was posting this.

Mods could you please move this to either the emulation or games & homebrew sections of the GCW-Zero sub-forum?

Sorry, won't happen again.

I think that an SWF (ShockWave Flash) emulation is possible! I don't know  if anybody is working on it at the moment!
You consider that NDS hardware is considerably less "powerful" than GCWZ hardware, moreover the respective CPUs have different architecture/instruction set, ARMv5 for NDS and MIPS32 R2 for GCWZ.

I am certain the hardware is capable, as there is an (admittedly limited) SWF player for the Dingoo. But I don't know if the Dingoo's SWF player can be reverse-engineered, or if there's any open-source SWF players for MIPS that could be ported, so a SWF player for the Zero might have to be written from scratch, which could take some time...
I play games on: GBC, GBA, GBA SP, NDS, NGPC, Panasonic FZ-10 3DO, NES, Sega Nomad, Sega CDX w/Power Base Converter, PS1, PS2, PS3, Sega Saturn, PC, EGP1000, Dingoo A330, Gemei A330, LetCool N350JP, PAP-GAMETA, GCW-Zero SE, Kyocera Rise, and 2DS.

Currently playing: Legacy of the Wizard (NES), Cave Story (GCW-0), Zookeeper Battle (Android), Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (2DS).

Midpath (http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/dingoo.cgi?0,0,0,0,73,420) was really cool on (Legacy) Dingux and worked fine for most games I've tried.

Haven't tested it on GCW Zero yet. But it would be great to have that on Open Dingux, too.

I think SWF and Midpath are of a low priority now. This is simple: they do not offer much quality games and dealing with them is not reasonable while other important emulators are not ready. Midpath is possible, however, more as a proof-of-concept rather than as a useful tool. As for SWF I highly doubt it would be ported.
