It rises to the occasion with strong performances and with its directors’ willingness to slow down and take their story seriously, balancing humor, action, and exposition in a carefully calibrated package. ...Read full review

Captain Marvel manages to take the best ideas of early MCU origin stories like Iron Man and Thor and use them to form something that feels both familiar and fresh. It can be a bit on-the-nose at times, and occasionally has to fast-track its exposition in ways that can feel slightly clunky, but what it lacks in grace it makes up for in charm. ...Read full review

As the energy-beam projecting, space-flying defender of the underdog, Brie Larson has captured the pugnacious, charming, steely Captain Marvel in the ways she deserves. ...Read full review

So why does Captain Marvel feel like a bit of a disappointment? It’s fine and often quite funny. It fits securely within the MCU but also functions sufficiently as a stand-alone entity. But the character, and the tremendous actress playing her in Oscar-winner Brie Larson, deserved more than fine. ...Read full review

What’s said to be Marvel’s most powerful superhero ever is served Melatonin by Larson. There is precious little texture or detail, ups and downs, or emotions of any kind in her performance. The character, even when kicking ass, is a total bore. Such as it is, the film’s best moments are provided by Jackson and a hilarious cat. ...Read full review

This movie is great fun and I'm gonna watch it a second time for sure. My expectations were really high and it matched them. Brie Larson plays a refreshingly unpretentious Carol Danvers, much more like a Guardian Of The Galaxy rather than an Avenger. Expand

I did love the cast and how good they work together, but it feels like it was done as a prerequisite for Endgame. The directon was bad, scriptI did love the cast and how good they work together, but it feels like it was done as a prerequisite for Endgame. The directon was bad, script is very plain, the way they cut it. It did not trasmit the feelings the actors were playing. Brie is an awesome drama actress but the creators did not take the best of her. It feels like they made it running, like they ran out of time and deliver something that was good in idea but made it mediocre. It could have work a lot better if they had more time or effort in it. The cast did an awesome job but the rest wasn't there. Marvel came down with this one. Expand
