Opening Times
The Gardens are open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm [subject to variations listed below]
Entry to the House is by Guided Tour only. Tours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10:30am - 3:00pm at 30 minute intervals [subject to variations listed below]

Tours of Government House Sydney
Admission to Government House Sydney is free.
Prior registration is required before entering the house. Tickets are available from the Gatehouse next to the main gate. For security reasons all visitors are required to present valid identification when registering for a tour at the Gatehouse.
A maximum 20 visitors can be accommodated on each tour. Tickets are allocated on a first come first served basis.
All bags must be cloaked at the ticket office prior to entry – no bags are allowed inside Government House Sydney. Luggage/Suitcases cannot be brought or stored on Government House Sydney property, including small ‘overhead’ luggage cases.
Types of valid identification include:
- Australian and International Passports
- Australian and International Drivers' Licences
- Australian Medicare Card
- Australian Student Card
- Australian Seniors Card
- Australian Proof of Identification Cards
- An Australian Birth or Citizenship Certificate
Group Bookings
Groups of 10 or more may book a tour by prior arrangement. Please contact us during business hours (Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm) for further information.
Location
Government House Sydney is located inside the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. The nearest gates to Government House are located on Macquarie Street to the left of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. From there it is a short walk to the main gate to Government House.
The nearest train station is at Circular Quay (10 minutes).
There are also regular bus services to and from Circular Quay and Phillip Street.
Accessibility Information
- There are a couple of steps leading into Government House Sydney
- There is no hand rail but ramps are available on request
- There are a couple of steps and ramps from the State Rooms to the Arcade and Eastern Terrace Garden with hand rails
- Apart from the main entrance and Arcade exit, all State Rooms have level access
- Accessible bathrooms are available
Parking for guests and visitors with disabilities is available in the grounds. Cars displaying a disability sticker can be parked at Reception. If your car does not have a disability sticker, please contact us during business hours (Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm) before hand to notify us about your parking needs.
Royal Botanic Garden’s gate to Government House is closed on weekends and public holidays. These gates will be opened routinely for guests arriving for a function. Visitors attending public tours must phone in advance to advise of their arrival in order for the gates to be opened for them.
Visitors arriving via public transport are advised that the closest accessible train station is Circular Quay. There is a lift from Circular Quay up to the Cahill Expressway (located at East Circular Quay). From the Cahill Expressway, access to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Government House can be reached.
