After a couple of weeks of change atop the singles and albums charts, we’re steady at No.1 on this week’s ARIA Chart Watch.
Jonas Brothers maintain their hold on the No.1 position on the singles chart, while Ariana Grande holds in top spot over on the albums side of the draw.
But there’s plenty more drama and intrigue in the 99 positions to follow, so let’s delve a little deeper in this week’s ARIA Chart Watch!
SINGLES
Jonas Brothers’ ascent to the No.1 spot last week with their new single ‘Sucker’ has been followed by a second week in the No.1 spot here in Australia.
And the track’s obviously selling too; earning itself the week’s first accreditation. It’s now gold certified, meaning it’s sold in excess of 35,000 units in its three week stint down under.
Post Malone’s ‘Wow’ is replaced in the No.2 spot by Post Malone’s ‘Sunflower’. The rest of the top five is steady.
Expect an improvement in the chart fortunes of Ariana Grande’s ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’, which was officially serviced to Australian media this week.
Speaking of improvements, check out the Lauv / Trove Sivan number ‘I’m So Tired…’, which improves another six places to No.11 this week and is now on the precipice of breaking into the top ten.
P!nk’s ‘Walk Me Home’ was the No.1 most added track to Australian radio during the week, so it stands to reason that the track improves to a new peak of No.12 (up two).
Khalid’s ‘My Bad’ leaps 12 places from last week’s No.30 debut, while Imagine Dragons’ ‘Bad Liar’ improves seven places to No.26 and is now only six places away from its No.20 chart peak thus far.
After debuting at No.64 seven days ago, the new Marshmello / Chvrches single ‘Here With Me’ is up like a rocket, soaring 29 places to No.35.
Great news also for the 5 Seconds Of Summer boys, whose former No.1 smash ‘Youngblood’ achieves a new eighth platinum accreditation, meaning it’s sold in excess of 560,000 units down under.
There’s a 13 place rise and new peak for Mabel’s ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ (No.51 to No.38), while the new Hilltop Hoods track ‘Exit Signs’ shows no signs of leaving the top 50 at the moment, improving five to No.42.
A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie wraps the top 50 with a No.47 debut for ‘Swervin’ (featuring an appearance by 6ix9ine).
Beyond the fifty this week, the rise of the new Juice WRLD track ‘Robbery’ has stalled. It drops 11 places from last week’s No.41 peak.
Seemingly no such problems for Ava Max’s new single ‘So Am I’, which bullets 38 places from last week’s No.91 debut.
There’s a No.56 debut for the new Birds Of Tokyo track ‘Good Lord’ and a No.62 debut for Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’.
Not such good news for A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s ‘Look Back At It’, however, which stumbles 14 places to No.64.
Bebe Rexha’s ‘Last Hurrah’ is up (No.72 to a new peak of No.65), Kehlani’s ‘Nights Like This’ is down (No.58 to No.68) and there’s a No.70 debut for Schoolboy Q (that’d be ‘Numb Numb Juice’).
G Flip takes a running jump towards the top 50 with ‘Drink Too Much’. It improves 19 places from last week’s No.96 debut.
Zedd and Katy Perry’s ‘365’ is down again… from No.65 to No.81. But Juice WRLD’s ‘Hear Me Calling’ is down further… 29 places from last week’s No.54 debut. In the middle of both is a 12 place rise (to No.82 – a new peak) for Amy Shark’s latest, ‘Mess Her Up’.
ALBUMS
As mentioned, no change to top spot on the ARIA albums chart either this week, with Ariana Grande maintaining her position with ‘Thank U, Next’.
And with a drop for the new Kerser album, the likes of the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ soundtrack, Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’, the ‘A Star Is Born’ soundtrack, Hilltop Hoods’ ‘The Great Expanse’ and Queen’s ‘The Platinum Collection’ resume normal programming, each improving one position.
But with his local visit for CMC Rocks Queensland, Luke Combs’ album ‘This One’s For You’ leaps from No.19 to No.7. That’s one place higher than the album’s previous chart peak in Australia.
A much bigger jump for The Eagles’ ‘Selected Works : 1972-1999’, however. It was in triple figures last week – at No.100 precisely – but rockets 92 places to No.8.
Florida Georgia Line, who were also in the country for CMC Rocks, see their album ‘Can’t Say I Ain’t Country’ take a leap. It’s up from No.31 to No.14.
An appearance on the ‘Graham Norton Show’ will no doubt have helped the new Jack Savoretti album ‘Singing To Strangers’ to a No.23 debut.
There’s a No.39 to No.26 jump for the Cardi B album ‘Invasion Of Privacy’, but a rather large No.2 to No.30 drop for Kerser’s ‘Lifestyle’.
Hozier’s ‘Wasteland, Baby’ is down 14 to No.37, but Ocean Alley’s ‘Chiaroscuro’ is up 22 to No.39.
Two big drops, however, come from two albums that premiered in the top 20 last week. Dido’s new long player ‘Still On My Mind’ is down 30 places from a No.14 debut. Foals’ new record ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1’, however, falls further, dropping 35 from last week’s No.11 debut.
Something’s obviously gone awry with the new Dan Sultan record ‘Aviary Takes’. His previous two albums have both premiered top five. This one, however, premieres at a lowly No.47.
Outside the top 50, Morgan Wallen’s ‘If I Know Me’ is new at No.53 and there’s a No.70 to No.54 jump for Chillinit’s ‘Women Weed & Wordplay’.
JuiceWRLD’s ‘Goodbye & Good Riddance’ premieres at No.55, while there are re-entries at Nos.58 and 59 for Thomas Rhett’s ‘Life Changes’ and Elton John’s ‘One Night Only : Greatest Hits’ respectively.
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Greatest Hits’ plunges 33 places after their Aussie tour (No.32 to No.65), while Guns N’ Roses’ best-of also dips (No.50 to No.67).
Speaking of post-tour drops… Kylie Minogue’s ‘Golden’ is also down. Was No.43 last week, now No.68.
‘The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac’ tumbles 23 to No.78. ‘The Very Best Of Crowded House’ is down 26 to No.83. Tom Walker’s ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ slumps 29 to No.89. Offset’s ‘Father Of 4’ drops 24 to No.91.
But spare a thought for Stella Donnelly. Her new long player ‘Beware Of The Dogs’ was flying high last week, with a No.15 debut. Seven days on, however, and it’s plummeted 77 places to No.92.
Even the soundtrack to ‘Forrest Gump’ isn’t immune to a tumble… down 41 to No.97.
Maren Morris’s ‘Girl’ is the only album to fall out of the top 100 from the top 50… a debut last week at No.29 followed by a 71+ place fall and gone.
