WJ was removed from the Google News platform around October 24, 2018. Before that, WJ was in Google News for years. In fact, at this moment, WJ’s ownership status in Google Publisher Console shows “Verified,” and News shows as “Included.”pic.twitter.com/yHxEogfERg

After discovering that WJ was not showing up for the user in Google News, WJ immediately reached out for assistance. Google initially replied that sort of error had occurred regarding a noindex tag being incorrectly applied. We checked our content and that was NOT the case.pic.twitter.com/eT5b0Dp2N7

We replied on December 5, 2018, letting Google know that the code mentioned was on an iFrame. Google News team then replied on December 6, 2018, that they were “currently investigating this issue and will surely get back to you as soon as we've any updates.”

After two weeks of asking for our patience, Google emailed WJ back on December 15, 2018, but ONLY after a Google representative responded about the issue in response to
@LibertarianBlue’s story written on Breitbart.https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/12/14/western-journal-google-filtered-our-site-out-of-news-searches/ …Afficher cette discussion -
Google’s response to
@BreitbartNews was that Google’s system has detected an unusually large amount of non-original and republished content on the website.Afficher cette discussion -
Only then did Google email WJ with an unoriginal and unhelpful echo of the Google PR representatives’ claim that Google’s system has detected non-original and republished content on WJ’s site.pic.twitter.com/TP05aqOWZ2

Like the majority of larger publishers, WJ syndicates
@AP content. Since this content could be construed as “non-original and republished,” WJ, in an abundance of caution, took steps to remove all AP content from sitemaps and Google’s index of the domain.Afficher cette discussion -
The same steps were taken to remove that syndicated content from Daily Caller News Foundation from Google’s index of WJ’s site.

ALL other content on WJ is completely original and not republished. We strengthened our op-ed submission guidelines so almost all op-eds are exclusive. WJ publishes about 300 fully original stories a week (apart from AP and DCNF.)

Google ignored WJ’s emails almost all of January until January 29, 2019. They again refused to give specifics on what was wrong with WJ. They repeated that we had “unoriginal and republished content.”

But the 1/29/19 email now added for the 1st time that WJ was engaging in practices that could be construed as “deceptive” to users. Google suggested WJ review the ’Content Policies’ and ’Webmaster Guidelines.’pic.twitter.com/zYCTzRCDfu

Although I am 100% certain that WJ does not publish un-original or duplicate content, we decided to conduct an audit of content and editorial processes to ensure compliance with Google’s policies. The results of the audit are below.pic.twitter.com/7jGc1HOUjT

It’s helpful to know how we at WJ create our stories and why we can be so certain that we are in full compliance with Google News policies regarding original content. So keep reading.

Ranked consistently in the top 20 of all publishers on Facebook, WJ works tirelessly to -- and, in fact, does -- comply with all of Facebook’s ad and user experience guidelines.pic.twitter.com/5PugbT0MKZ

None of WJ’s content is created “programmatically” -- via automation or A.I. generated software. WJ’s stories are sourced, reported, headlined, written and edited by hard-working humans at WJ. You can meet some in this vid-->pic.twitter.com/GURRui7ZOt

(We even welcomed the Google team to come to our building and meet the folks. We would feed them excellent snacks. They have not yet accepted.)

To be transparent about our content creators, WJ provides contact information for authors and provides a way to contact WJ. Posts are provided with bylines and the publication date and time.

We even go further and provide biographical information about our authors. As seen in the example below, WJ’s author section provides a brief bio of the author, an option to view more information about the author, and a way to contact the author. (Check out

Every story includes a “submit corrections” form to contact every single person involved in the story, from assignment editor, to writer, to story editor. We constantly monitor those submissions to ensure truthfulness.

Summary: We found ZERO areas of non-compliance that should exclude WJ from Google News. Yet
@Google still refuses to identify even 1 example of flagged content that is non-compliant out of the currently 37,366 articles published on our domain. (end thread)Afficher cette discussion
