Alibaba’s voice assistant speaker, AliGenie X1, launched at ¥499 in China

06 July 2017 3

Just a few days back we reported that Alibaba plans to launch its own Amazon Echo rival in China and here it comes. Alibaba has today launched a voice assistant speaker thereby marking its first foray into artificially intelligent home devices and competing with big names like Amazon, Apple, Google, and JD.

Dubbed as AliGenie X1, it comes with an AI assistant called Genie. The AliGenie X1 smart speaker is powered by the new Mediatek MT8516 voice chip and comes with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.3GHz. The speaker is 126mm-tall and has a 360°omni-directional 6-beam microphone that can pick up sounds from 5m away. The gadget gets connected to the network in less than 10 seconds while it takes an average of 30 seconds for most other smart home devices available in the market. There is Bluetooth 4.0 LE as well as WiFi connectivity.

The speaker is activated by voice commands and is currently programmed to use Mandarin as its language. The user needs to say "Tmall Genie" in Chinese to activate the device.

The device will be available only in China in black and white color options. The AliGenie X1 will retail for ¥499 equivalent to $73. The price is relatively less when compared to the Google Home which retails for $129 and Amazon Echo which costs $179.99. There is no information on the availability of the speaker yet.

Stay tuned for more news!
