Patty Jenkins on Wonder Woman 3 setting, directing the next Justice League

While we know director Patty Jenkins has a good idea of what she wants to do for Wonder Woman 3, she elaborated on a few details at Sundance Saturday and even discussed whether she would want to direct a Justice League film in the future.

The topics came up during a conversation with the Hollywood Reporter where Jenkins explained she’s not set for sure, but isn’t “dying to do another period piece” with Wonder Woman.

“I'm not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It's definitely a contemporary story. That's all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven't totally nailed down,” Jenkins said.

After two period films, it would be interesting to see where Wonder Woman goes in a more contemporary setting. She’s been seen in more present times in films like Justice League, but had to share screen time with the other heroes. Justice League was another film Jenkins discussed, commenting on whether she was interested in directing such a movie.

“I find those movies to be extremely challenging. I think they’re fantastic when they’re well done, but taking on all of those characters at the same time in the timeline, I sort of hope that we don't do a Justice League movie for a little while, because I think each of those characters are really great,” she said. “I'm super excited to see each of their movies. I want to see Aquaman 2 and I want to see Flash. So I don’t know. You never know. I would never say never, but I think everybody should have a moment to shine.”

We would love to see Jenkins tackle an ensemble DC film like Justice League, but can't argue with her desire to see every hero shine after her work with Wonder Woman and what James Wan did with Aquaman.

Whatever the future holds, we at least know for sure we still have a trip to the 1980s to look forward to when Wonder Woman 1984 is released June 5, 2020.
