Delhiites were in for a pleasant surprise when stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma landed up at India Gate on Wednesday evening to take part in a traffic initiative. He was seen asking commuters to wear helmets and seat belts.

Kapil also spoke about bike stunts. “Bike pe stunt jo karte hain, samajh nahi aata woh kya sabit karna chahte hain. Shayad bike haath mein le ke sab John Abraham banna chahte hain. Lekin yeh log yeh bhool jaate hain ki John jab stunt karta hai, toh kitni cranes lagi rehti hain safety ke liye.”

Kapil was accompanied by the additional commissioner of police, Traffic, Anil Shukla. Asking people to follow the traffic signals, Kapil said, “Help the Delhi Traffic Police by following the traffic signals. Dilli mein har koi apne aap ko pradhan mantri samajhta hai. Log seat belt nahi pehente hain, na hi helmet lagate hain. If something happens, we blame the police, but we never think of helping the police.” Hailing from a police family himself, the comedian said, “ Main police ki family se hoon, main agar traffic rules follow na karoon, toh sabse pehle ghar mein danda padega.

Even though the event was supposed start at 3.15pm, it started one-and-a-half hours late. About the delay, Shukla explained, “Kapil’s flight got delayed, and thus we started late.”
