Freight Brokerage

Freight brokerage services are more and more demanded each day in this highly dynamic marketplace.  A freight broker is an individual or corporation that serves as a link between another party that needs shipping services. The broker himself doesn’t function as a shipper or a carrier. Instead, a freight broker is an intermediary that works to determine the needs of a shipper and connects that shipper with a carrier willing and able to transport his items at a competitive rate. Here at Lincoln Distribution, we are certified as freight brokers by The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Freight brokerage service companies are also expected to carry insurance to protect their businesses as well as their clients from any potential loss, and at Lincoln we have that completely covered.

Freight Brokerage Services

An efficient freight brokerage service relies on a third-party logistics service and creates a link between them and various types of shippers. The shippers may require sea transportation, trucking companies, air freighters, railroad carriers, and others. Freight brokerage services such as ours guarantee that shippers can easily transport goods to their end destinations. At Lincoln Distribution, we have partnerships with different carriers and we work alongside with them to offer the most competitive rates and high-quality service to all our clients. Our client should be familiarized with the different kinds of shipments available. For example, LTL, which is the acronym for Less than Truck Load, is one of them. LTL shipments don’t require a full 48 or 53-foot trailer. There are many carriers that specialize in this type of service and LTL carriers themselves also specialize in different particular services depending on the nature of the product or the type of delivery required. Products are moved from point to point by a number of different transportation means such as air, railroad, sea and land transports. In the U.S., the movement of goods by truck offers shippers increasing flexibility at a relatively low cost. Trucks can move large items faster than rail as the shipment is not dependent on railroads schedules.

Freight Brokerage Shipments

On the other hand, here at Lincoln Distribution, we can also offer TL shipments. Freight shipments that need the entire space or weight limit of a truck’s trailer are known as full truckload (TL) shipments. TL shipping is the best option when the freight weighs more than 15,000 pounds, or the shipper has more than 10 pallets of freight. Full TL shipments travel on a single truck to its destination, creating a more reliable expected delivery date for shippers and their customers. Truckload shipments are generally more expensive but require less handling than LTL shipments. Finally, as another important shipment mode, here at Lincoln we can offer Intermodal transportation, which is the use of two types of freight, such as truck and rail, to transport goods from a shipper to its client. The intermodal process usually begins with a container being moved by a truck to a rail and then back to a truck to complete the process. There are about 25 million containers moved via intermodal shipping each year. As you can see, at Lincoln Distribution we offer the most efficient and reliable solutions to your shipping needs through our top-of-the-line freight brokerage services.
