Phoenix Racing extends contract with Nicolaj Møller Madsen
2019-01-18

Nicolaj Møller Madsen has become a permanent fixture of the Phoenix Racing team. The Dane will once again be lining up for the Meuspath-based team in 2019. Together with teammate Cédric Freiburghaus, Møller Madsen will be aiming at defending his title in the GT4 European Series.

“I am very grateful for another year with Phoenix Racing”, he said. “I can’t wait to get back on track with the #1 car and attempt to defend my title. With Cédric as my teammate, we have a great chance at achieving this goal. I will be giving my all to give Ernst and the whole team something to celebrate once again.”

The 25-year-old was crowned champion of the GT4 European Series in 2018 together with Milan Dontje. The duo secured three wins and three poles in a strong season. Now partnering with Freiburghaus, who was also racing for Phoenix Racing in the same series last year, Møller Madsen hopes to match his performance from last year and add to his collection of victories.

“The goal for Nicolaj in the coming season is defending his title, that’s without a doubt”, said Team Principal Ernst Moser. “Here at Phoenix, we will be doing everything in our power to help him as best we can. It was important to get Cédric Freiburghaus on board as Nicolaj’s teammate. Both demonstrated what they can do with our Audi R8 LMS GT4 last year. The championship will be really exciting once again, I can’t wait!”

The reigning GT4 European Champion will be part of the Phoenix Racing family for the fourth year in succession. Success in the GT4 European Series is not the first victory for the pilot with the Meuspath-based team, but certainly one of the biggest. The partnership with Møller Madsen began back in 2016, when the Dane finished second in the Silver Cup class of the Blancpain GT Series. He also won the 6 Hours Qualifying Race at the Nürburgring in 2017. And Møller Madsen has numerous starts in the VLN endurance season under his belt for Ernst Moser’s team, as well as appearances at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.
