UPDATE: I'm pleased to report the developers are listening to user feedback. It is easier to listen to and self-contained for listeners who may not tune in every single day. We complained when we couldn't understand the hosts, and they cleared it up. We complained when they removed the spelling, and they added it back in. Kudos to Volley for trying to give users what they want. My original review is below
A long-time listener to the grown-up WOTD version, I was quick to add the kids' version when it launched. While at first I felt the show was just a bit long with the riddle and pun-filled characters, I soon realized that charm was just what kids need to activate their brains and get focused. What really impressed me though is the mnemonic aids built in to the broadcast that will subtly assist them in remembering the word itself: repetition is obvious, but the use of a musical scale during the spelling portion to chunk large data and sequence it? That's genius. Now if I could just find a way to play just this briefing instead of the whole flash update when I want to share it with my classroom this fall, I'd be all set!
