Ubisoft acquires Longtail Studios
Canadian developer's team of 30 will now work on AAA mobile games as Ubisoft Halifax
Ubisoft has acquired Longtail Studios, the Canadian developer that worked on the most recent version of its Rocksmith music franchise.
Longtail also worked with Ubisoft on Sports Connection for the Wii U and Dance On Broadway for the last generation of consoles. According to a statement released yesterday, Ubisoft intends to use Longtail's Halifax-based team to develop "AAA" games for mobile.
"As we continue to grow our mobile business, we are also looking to develop our expertise and expand our network of mobile studios," said Jean-Michel Detoc, executive director of Ubisoft's mobile business. "The team of more than 30 talented people in Halifax brings with it a wealth of experience as well as a clear understanding of Ubisoft's culture and processes."
Longtail will now be known as Ubisoft Halifax, and it is already recruiting for 10 open positions.
And there is some previous here. Longtail once had two offices, one in Halifax and the other in Quebec. In 2010, Ubisoft acquired the Quebec team, absorbing 48 Longtail employees into the company's existing Quebec office. According to an Engadget report at the time, up to 6 people lost their jobs in that transition.
