On the afternoon of March 10, the network lecture hall was packed, professor Carlo Rubbia, the world famous scientists and Nobel Laureate in physics, the ISE director, was invited to deliver a wonderful report named “A Necessary Premise for Civilization: the Stability of Climate.” to more than four hundred teachers and students of the High School Affiliated to CUMT.

Prof. Zhang Wanhong introduced Prof. Carlo Rubbia's outstanding performance. Prof. Carlo Rubbia is a professor of the University of Pavia in Italy, and chairman of Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA). In 1984, due to the discovery of weak interaction transmission W± and Z0, Prof. Carlo Rubbia and Prof. Simon Van Der Meer jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in physics. Recently, Prof. Carlo Rubbia is mainly engaged in research in the future energy supplies, with a focus on the development of new renewable energy technologies. Prof. Carlo Rubbia gave great support to the development of CUMT, on July 15, 2011, Prof. Carlo Rubbia was awarded as the honorary doctorate degree of CUMT; On September 28, 2015, Prof. Carlo Rubbia was hired as Director of ISE of CUMT. On January 8, 2016, Prof. Carlo Rubbia was awarded China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award by the Chinese government for his important scientific contribution in China.

Firstly, Prof. Rubbia introduced students the history of the earth's climate change, then explained the “Burning ice” form and storage areas. For the current situation and future of the earth, Prof. Rubbia made scientific forecast based on historical development and put forward the corresponding strategies. He believes that the current earth in a stable and lasting warmth after interglacial period, to maintaining the temperature we need to exploit new energy actively, if not under effective control, the earth's temperature will be increasing continuously. To make the prediction of 2020 CO2 emissions reduced to 1995 from 12 GtC to 6 GtC, we have to carry out the zero CO2emissions plan, and now what we need to do is to find a right way to achieve this goal.

In the interactive session, the students ask questions actively. How do you deal with difficulties in the research process? What is the key factor of success for one? Who had the greatest influence on you? Faced these questions, Prof. Carlo Rubbia answered with patience and smile. When faced to difficulties, he said, we need to develop an optimistic attitude, and interest is the best teacher, curiosity is the powerful driving force of scientific research; we should pay attention to team work, it is very important to everybody, their thoughts and actions will bring inspiration, remembering to be kind to the people and things around you.

The Nobel Prize is the world's highest honor for scientific research, it will be our eternal good memory in middle school for the opportunity to listening to the international top scientist Professor Carlo Rubbia’s report,” Many students said excitedly. Students thought that it’s hard to believe that a scientist so approachable, not like what they have imagined before. This short- time speech won Prof. Carlo Rubbia a large number of young fans.

After the report, Principal of High School Affiliated to CUMT Wang Jianpeng accepted the news media interviews. The High School Affiliated to CUMT relying on CUMT’s resources, he said, has good operating conditions, the school often holds high level’s lectures of experts and scholars to widen students' eyes and inspire students' creativity. Students closely contact with Nobel laureate has positive significance to their scientific interest stimulate, shaping of the personality quality, the cultivation of the willpower, the comprehensive quality and so on. This summer, the school will move to the beautiful new campus, the school will be expanded more than 10 times, school conditions will be improved, and more activities like this can be hold, to build a better platform for students’ healthy growth and comprehensive development.
