Parliamentary work placement and apprenticeship schemes

The Houses of Parliament are determined to be a rewarding, inclusive and diverse place to work. Parliament has set up three schemes to offer opportunities to individuals who would not previously have thought to work here. These schemes offer the chance to work both for the House Service and for a Member of Parliament and provide opportunities to increase their employability for the future.

The united aim of the schemes is to try to reach out to the widest possible pool of talent and attract people who may not have considered a career in Parliament.

The Parliamentary Academy Scheme

Set up by The Creative Society and Robert Halfon MP, the Parliamentary Academy is the first apprentice school in the UK Parliament.

The Speaker’s Parliamentary Placement Scheme

This Scheme provides a nine-month paid work experience placement designed to open up Parliament to people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in politics

House of Commons Apprenticeship Scheme

House of Commons Student Sandwich Placement Scheme

Presents a variety of roles across multiple departments giving undergraduate students the opportunity to work on an 11-month placement in the House of Commons

ParliAble: in support of disabled people in Parliament. It is open to both those who consider themselves to have a disability and those who have an interest in supporting disabled people.

Parliagender: in support for gender equality. Our aim is to achieve gender equality across Parliament.

ParliREACH: in support of increasing awareness and appreciation of race, ethnicity and cultural heritage issues in Parliament.

ParliOUT: in support of LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexual, and questioning) people in Parliament
