The Discover Reed Fly-In Program is an all-expenses-paid program designed to provide talented high school students the opportunity to visit campus and experience life as a Reedie. Attendees will have the opportunity to spend two nights with a current student in a Reed residence hall, dine on-campus, sit in on Reed classes, and interact closely with Reed students, faculty, and staff.

You are eligible for this program if you are a high school senior who is living within the U.S. or U.S. territories. We encourage students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds (African American, Latino, Asian, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander) to apply.

To be considered for the Discover Reed Fly-in Program, you must submit the following application requirements:

  • Completed Application
  • High School Transcript  (official or unofficial is accepted)
  • Resume - (optional)
  • Essay - The Discover Reed Fly-In essay question is the same question asked by Reed College during the college application process

PLEASE NOTE: Before you begin the Discover Reed Fly-In Application, take some time to gather the required credentials AND to formulate your essay response. You will not be able to partially complete the application and save your work to return to at a later time.

Essay Question: For one week at the end of January, Reed students upend the traditional classroom hierarchy and teach classes about any topic they love, academic or otherwise.  This week is known as Paideia after the Greek term signifying "education"; the complete education of mind, body, and spirit. What would you teach that would contribute to the Reed community? (200-500 words)

Please note that accepted applicants for the Discover Reed Fly-In Program are required to submit a college application to Reed in the fall.  Additional information about college application requirements will be shared later in the year.

Discover Reed Fly-In applications are due by September 7, 2018.  Please contact flyin@reed.edu with any questions.
