The Battle is On Again Over Health Care for All
They did it successfully when Hillary Clinton pushed for a public health care system in 1993. The insurance companies managed to cut the best out of Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act during his term in office. And the battle is on again as a Democratic Party coalition now presses to fix Obama’s plan and provide the single payer health care system desired by most Americans. Other than the battle against global warming the quest for improved health care will probably be among the most important issues facing candidates for the presidency in 2020.

Magic Mushrooms Might Be Good Medicine
A team of researchers has now studied and documented the effects of “magic mushrooms,” technically known as the psilocybin variety, and learned something that most users probably already know . . . the “shroom” offers a safe, long-lasting way of improving lives and personal feelings of well-being. So why are psilocybin mushrooms on the government’s Schedule I list of controlled substances? That is a good question. As a Schedule I substance psilocybin carries the highest penalties for possession and sale. Conviction can lead to jail or prison time, stiff fines, and loss of a driver’s license.

Is the U.S. Food Industry Purposefully Poisoning Us?
"Excitotoxins, the Taste That Kills," is a shocking book by Dr. Russell L. Blaylock, a professor of neurosurgery at the Medical University of Mississippi. The book claims certain ingredients found in most prepared foods are poisoning us. Since its release in 1997, Blaylock's book has inspired further research in which a variety of other papers by notable experts strongly support his claims that a "food enhancer" called monosodium glutamate (MSG) and an artificial sweetener called aspartame are linked to a wide variety of human brain disorders.

Something Is Wrong With American Dentistry
I know a lot about dentistry. I have experienced my share of white-knuckled torture in dental chairs over the years and never had any love for the things that go on in those offices. And I believe that American dentistry, while always experimenting with new ideas, has made a few wrong turns over the years.

Getting Our Morning Poison
Short of possibly slipping in the shower, few of us consider ourselves in any danger when we go through our morning grooming routine. That is because we are not chemists. We probably have little idea what that long list of chemical names on the back of our shampoo bottle, our mouthwash bottle, and the toothpaste tube consists of, or what these things might do to us if ingested, or merely rubbed on our skin. We have used these products much of our lives and nothing ever happened. Why should be think there is anything wrong? It is a matter of trusting the manufacturer. After all, "they" are regulated by our government, are they not?

Shopping Adventures: Waiting For Health Care Reform
One one particular day an elderly woman dropped herself down on the bench beside me and struck up a conversation. Within moments, and without any probing on my part, I learned that she suffered from arthritis of the joints, heart trouble and a variety of other ailments that appeared to classify her among the walking dead. Soon other elderly folks joined her and began talking about their health problems. It did not take long before I knew the complete medical history of everybody in the group. The big burly man with the pie eyes suffered from glaucoma and cataracts and was taking some strong medicine to keep from going blind. The dapper white-haired man said he was blind in one eye and getting a cataract in the other one. He worried about having the cataract removed with laser surgery because he said a friend had it done and the operation did not go well. He said if this happened to him he would be blind.

Of Course People Can't Name Their Medications
A Reuters News report noted that most patients cannot give an accurate account of the drugs they are taking. The story said about 40 percent of patients receiving blood pressure medicine could not accurately recall the names of the drugs they were prescribed. That number jumped to 60 percent among patients with "low health literacy," which probably includes most people. Those of us who are on a medication routine clearly understand why this can be a problem.

Killing Ebola With Ultra-Violet Light
The Ebola pandemic has been terrorizing portions of Africa and recently patients in Dallas, Texas. When that happened the media suggested that the virus may someday be out of control. Are we at the beginning of an unstoppable disease that is about to sweep the world and leave billions of dead and decaying bodies in its wake? Maybe not, proclaimed Mike Adams, the self-proclaimed "Health Ranger" on the website Natural Health News. Adams says ultra-violet light machines are already available and in use in an estimated 250 world hospitals. He believes these machines are capable of killing every known germ and virus, including Ebola, within minutes.

Dirty Truth Revealed; Hand Washing Often Avoided
Something that has irked me for a long time now has been the failure by men observed leaving public restrooms without stopping to wash their hands. As a former biology student, the son of a research chemist, husband of a medical technologist and a survivor of a fifth grade experience where our teacher was a fanatic for cleanliness, I have been keenly aware throughout my life of the benefits of washing the hands, especially after utilizing the facilities of a public restroom. Now with the threats of new mutant varieties of the flu, a dangerous form of Staphylococcus bacteria, a killer new strain of tuberculosis, and a variety of other terrible new and revived old diseases sweeping the world, hand washing after contact in public places is more important than it ever was.

The Poison In American-Made Chewing Gum
We don’t understand their reasoning because manufactured sweetener does not appear to be less costly than sugar. Perhaps the American chewing gum manufacturers are involved in a mass conspiracy to destroy the minds of our children and all adults who like to chomp on their product. That or they have been caught up in a mass marketing scheme for pure greedy profit. Whatever the reason, chewing gum in America is laced with aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is known as an excitotoxin. They call it that because the chemical in it is toxic and excites brain cells to the point of killing them.

Why I Am A Vegetarian
Not long ago when Mad Cow Disease began striking livestock in England, parts of Europe and the United States, the cause was tracked to a practice of grinding up bones and other discarded parts of animals at slaughterhouses and mixing it back in cattle feed. Mad Cow Disease was breaking out among other carnivorous animals, including humans, who had consumed tainted meat from infected cattle. But in their haste to cover up the terrible effects of the disease the beef industry as well as high government officials created a complex system of giving different names to the same disease when it jumped species. Thus it was known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) in humans, Scrapie in sheep, whirling disease in fish, and wasting disease in deer. All of these diseases have been linked to a peculiar maverick protein called a prion, that causes natural proteins to break down and turn into an imitation of the attacking protein. It works like a type of cancer of the brain, causing cells to go haywire.

The Health Problems Linked to Root Canals
By the time we reach middle-age most of us have had dental procedures that include root canals. When a tooth becomes severely infected rather that pulling the tooth, the dentist drills down through the nerves, hollows out the soft inner part of the tooth and then fills it with a hardening substance, thus leaving a dead tooth in place that functions for many years as a regular healthy tooth, minus nerve pain. It seems like a simple and workable way to stop toothaches and save teeth from extraction. But there are many critics who claim the procedure is turning the dead teeth into breeding grounds for dangerous bacteria that hang out in a network of tiny transporting tubes, safe from the effects of the body’s natural immune defenses or even antibiotics.

Can Silver Kill Deadly Viruses?
I noticed a tiny article in some websites a few years ago that said a “groundbreaking” study published in the Journal of Nanotechnology showed that nanoparticles of silver will bond with and kill virtually all viruses. The report said an unnamed team of scientists from the University of Texas and Mexico University found that silver kills HIV-1 and may also be effective against all other viruses, including the swine flu virus, H5N1, and all of the other deadly new variants of influenza bacterial infections that have been popping up.

Deadly “Blackwater” Malaria – Smallpox Threats
Blame it on global warming; there is a deadly new form of malaria spreading across Asia and the Middle East, and scientists worry that frozen corpses of smallpox victims, now thawing in the tundra regions of the far north, may release that terrible virus once more. For those too young to remember, smallpox once rivaled malaria as the worst infectious disease ever to strike the human race. Now there is a threat of the old smallpox virus waking up from a long and frozen sleep, and a new form of malaria that kills within hours.

Is The Meat Industry Destroying Our Brains?
Not long ago when Mad Cow Disease began striking livestock in England, parts of Europe and the United States, the cause was tracked to a practice of grinding up bones and other discarded parts of animals at slaughterhouses and mixing them in cattle feed. The idea was to provide extra protein in the feed. But it was a form of cannibalism that was causing bovine spongiform encephalopathy, a destruction of the brain that caused the cows to stagger, then fall to the ground and die.

Beware The Deadly Lineup Of Artificial Sweeteners
It was a family joke that the first words I ever spoke were “Mama dirt.” Translated, I was asking my mother for dessert, or something laced with sugar. I had been introduced to sugar and was addicted to it before I could talk. People love their sugar and they are getting their fill of it in the foods and soft drinks they consume daily. Food processing companies know this and they add some form of a sweetener to almost everything they sell to make it more appealing to our taste buds. We get it in salad dressing, pasta sauce, pizza, ketchup, and of course in soft drinks and candy.

Legalizing Cannabis Would Fix The Opioid Problem
It is tragic that Trump’s appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions is beefing up a national prohibition against the growth, possession, sale and use of marijuana at a time when voters are calling for its legalization and cannabis has been declared legal for medical and in some cases recreational use in some states. This is because new research is discovering what many marijuana users have been saying for years . . . the ingredients in this amazing plant not only have healing properties, but provide an effective relief for pain. It also has been found to be a safe recreational substance that is non addictive. Ironically as Sessions continues his campaign to declare marijuana an illegal substance, his office also is putting heat on the medical community to control prescriptions for pain relief medications that contain opioids. And President Trump only yesterday declared the opioid problem in the U.S. a national emergency. The solution to this problem is right in front of everybody's eyes.

Outwitting The Drug-Resistant Bacterium
Few people realize that all living organisms on Earth possess awareness and appear to think and react to changes in the environment. The lowly bacterium is among them. This is the reason that the medical world has had such a problem with fighting against a growing problem of disease-resistant bacterium. Those little buggers can get fooled once when slaughtered by a chemical compound that is poison to them. But the message is passed around among the survivors and it is not long before the bacteria in the neighborhood finds a way to breed new and more powerful cousins that can survive the poison and still attack the host.

The Amazing Reishi Mushroom
There is a life force that grows everywhere under our feet and even on the floor of the oceans of the world. It is neither plant, animal nor insect; but rather a fungus that quietly dominates the planet. And while we usually pay little attention to it, the fungus family that comes in an incredible variety of shapes and forms is so much a part of our lives it is almost impossible for us to separate ourselves from it. The reishi mushroom, or Ganoderma lucidum, is an edible fungus long known by the Chinese for its benefits as a strong anti-inflammatory and a food that helps establish long life. It has long been believed to improve the immune function and bring mental clarity. But are these claims true? Modern research has found that the reishi mushroom indeed brings these benefits and more.

Dangerous Pill To Erase “Bad” Memories
A Dutch research team has invented a special beta blocker, a pill that appears to change the brain chemistry of both humans and animals and remakes memories of unpleasant and frightening events.
Dr. Merel Kindt of Amsterdam University said experiments on animals and human volunteers have shown that the drugs, technically called beta-adrenergic receptor blockers, can interfere with how the brain deals with memories of unpleasant events. Sounds good but is tinkering with the brain a good thing in the long run?

The Superbug Nightmare Is Here
Biologists and medical researchers have been warning about an onset of new strains of deadly anti-resistant bacteria that could sweep the world. The problem has been that doctors have been too quick over the years to prescribe antibiotics to treat bacterial infections and factory farms are still lacing livestock with them just to assure they remain healthy until they go to market.

Enjoy The Turkey – Melamine For All!
An alarming number of Americans are showing up on food lines and may be celebrating this Thanksgiving holiday in a homeless state this season. Those who are wolfing down their traditional Turkey with all of the trimming may be shocked to know that they may also be swallowing a slow and insidious poison called melamine.

Killer New Fungus Among Us
It is called Candida auris and it is a newly discovered variety of fungus that is making its way through U.S. hospitals in the east. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that at least 13 hospital patients have been infected by the fungus and four of them have died.

Beware the Chromium in Our Drinking Water
Of all the toxins now mixing with the food we eat, the air we breathe and the things we drink, chromium has not been given a high priority in our list of concerns. But a new report by a nonprofit research team, Environmental Working Group (EWG), warns that it should be. The EWG study has found that an estimated 200 million Americans in all 50 states are exposed to unsafe levels of chromium-6, a heavy metal known to cause cancer and other physical problems. And the stuff is turning up in our drinking water.

Head Transplant – What is Next in Medicine?
The news that an Italian neurosurgeon, Dr. Sergio Canavero, plans to carry out the complete transplantation of a human head sounds almost too incredible to believe. But I remember that I responded in much the same way when Dr. Christiaan Barnard of South Africa performed the world’s first human-to-human heart transplant.

Zika Is Here; Is Yellow Fever Next?
The mosquito-borne illness Zika has made its way from Africa to South America and finally to the United States. Now the World Health Organization (WHO) says Yellow Fever appears to be following the same deadly route. Carried by the same breed of mosquito that is bringing Zika across the world, WHO says a yellow fever outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola has killed over 400 people and is now spreading to Central Africa “and beyond.”

Growing “Legionnaires Disease” Threat
We haven’t heard much about Legionnaires Disease since the 1976 outbreak at an American Legion convention in Philadelphia. But the bug is still around and its victims growing in numbers as the planet heats and people turn to their air conditioners more frequently for relief. That’s because the bacteria grows best in damp places and spreads in small water droplets or mist fired from fan-driven air conditioning units.

Why Receiving Organs From Death Row Donors Is A Very Bad Idea
Harvesting body parts from executed prisoners has been a regular practice in Communist China and some people are floating the idea in the United States. While it would be a sure-fire way of helping meet the growing demand for transplanted kidneys, hearts, livers, lungs, eyeballs and other body parts, there are a few reasons why we perceive it as a very bad idea.

Deadly "Super Bugs" Are Here!
Until now an injection of a drug known as colistin has been the “last resort” against the killer E.coli bacterium that has been sweeping the world. Doctors didn’t like to use it because colistin is such a strong medication it attacks the kidneys and has a lot of troublesome side effects. But now this bug has developed a resistance to it. This means there is a killer bacterium on the loose in the world that can kill anyone in infects. And it can be passed on by a simple cough or sneeze. Another killer is a new virulant form of tuberculosis which also is resistant to all known antibiotics. This too is invading our neighborhoods.

Solving the Kalachi Sleeping Sickness
The residents of Kalachi, a small town in Kazakhstan near the Russian border, were contending with a strange sleeping sickness that also stole their memories. First occurring in about 2012, the disease lasted for three years before researchers determined its source. It was discovered that a noxious gas was seeping from an abandoned uranium mine under the town that was poisoning the people.

Three "Easy" Cancer Cures Claimed; Can It Be True?
After years of watching friends, family and neighbors suffer from the agony of losing battles against cancer we suddenly have news of three different claims of newly discovered “simple” cures that have either been held back by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or their practitioners have been forced to work in other countries. Many critics have long suspected that effective cancer cures have been held back for years because of the powerful medical industry that specializes in oncology. There is an entire industry built around the field of oncology, from the costly years of study the doctors have invested to the massive and specialized chemotherapy equipment placed in hospital cancer clinics.

Beware the Flesh Eating Disease
The news accounts are still saying the attacks by the flesh-eating bacteria are rare. But because of the number of incidents popping up this summer the description “rare” probably doesn’t apply any longer. The bug known as vibrio vulnificus seems to be lying in wait in the toxic oily waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Two men who chose to swim in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico in June became infected. One of them, Brian Parrott, 50, had his right leg amputated to save his life. The other, Adrian Ruiz, 42, is still fighting the infection.

Zika Mosquito Invasion Was Preventable
The ongoing insurrection among extreme right-wing racist Republican legislators in Washington, ignoring and blocking everything President Obama has attempted to accomplish in the seven years he has been in office, is creating severe problems on the home front. Not only has the nation’s failing infrastructure fallen deeper into ruin, but nothing is being done to hold back the monster storms now ravaging the country. And say hello everybody to the Aedes aegypi mosquito, the little monster from South America that is now buzzing around in the United States. This tiny blood-sucking insect is bringing with it the deadly Zika epidemic, which not only causes influenza-like symptoms, but attacks the brains of unborn babies still in the womb.

LSD Testing Vindicates Leary
It has been about 50 years since U.S. Psychologist Timothy Leary advocated the value of LSD and other psychedelic drugs in dealing with habitual behavior and treating some forms of mental illness. Instead of carrying on Leary’s research and considering the value these drugs might have, authorities lashed back at Leary’s unconventional behavior and members of the “counterculture” that endorsed his ideas. Harsh laws were passed making the use and possession of LSD, psilocybin and other psychedelics a felony. Leary was fired from his position at Harvard University and eventually imprisoned. President Richard Nixon once described Leary as “the most dangerous man in America.” Because of the attacks against Leary and the strong laws prohibiting the use of LSD and other psychedelics, follow-up research on Leary’s findings in his Harvard studies was blocked for the next 50 years. Now a team in England has discovered Leary was right.

Why Ban Kratom When Medical Benefits are Known?
Like marijuana, the leaf from a naturally grown plant found in Southern Asia that produces a “buzz” but is shown to offer significant medical benefits is being targeted by the U.S. Food and Drug Association to be an illegal substance. To date, the substance, known as kratom, has already been criminalized in the States of Indiana, Tennessee, Vermont and Wyoming. Similar laws are being considered in Florida and New Jersey.
When ingested by chewing the leaf, in a tea or by dried capsule, this substance acts as a significant pain reliever, eases withdrawal symptoms from opiates and alcohol. The natives of Thailand and Malaysia, where the leaf is found on a tropical tree, also use it as a mild recreational drug and to help them endure hard physical labor.

Polluted World – Lifestyle – Created Cancer
A recent study of Egyptian mummified human remains by researchers at the University of Manchester’s KNH Center for Biomedical Egyptology, UK, found that cancer was nearly non-existent among the Egyptians during the time when they were living under the Pharaohs. The study, quietly published in 2010 in the journal Nature Reviews Cancer, concluded that cancer is a modern disease, brought on by our contemporary diet, the industrial pollutants in our environment, and our life style.

Are Childhood Vaccinations Dangerous?
The alleged link between the contemporary “MMR” vaccine and autism has created a strange medical conspiracy theory that is pitting parents against public school districts, and medical professionals against one another. It is a topic that I have been loath to write about even though I have been living in the thick of this controversy all of my life. This week we take a serious look.

Is Monsanto Causing “Zika” Deformities?
Organizations of doctors in Brazil and Argentina are questioning whether the bite from mosquitoes and the Zika virus epidemic are causing deformities in newborn babies. They are questioning, instead, the extensive use of a specific insect killer being added to the drinking water as a more likely cause of this new medical phenomenon.

An Ultrasound Cure for Alzheimer’s?
Researchers at the University of Queensland, Australia, say they have found a non-invasive way of using ultrasound to clear the brain of amyloid plaques, one of two known causes of memory and cognitive function loss in Alzheimer’s patients. In a report published in Science Translational Medicine, the team from the university’s Brain Institute describes a technique in which they use a special type of ultrasound to beam oscillating sound waves into brain tissue. When tested on mice the technique is found to restore the memory function of 75 percent of the mice included in the test, and with no damage to the surrounding brain tissue.

Zika Virus; A Real Threat Or Are We Being Conned?
The World Health Organization has added Zika, a new mosquito-borne disease to a growing list of threats moving from the tropics into the United States. Zika is a really ugly disease that may cause Guillain-Barre, and lead to paralysis. They say it especially attacks babies while they are still in the womb. For them Zika causes microscopically, which is an unusually small head and brain, and lifelong learning disabilities. What is odd about the Zika virus is that it is expressing a sudden appearance, is spreading unusually fast, and the WHO is warning women in the infected areas to avoid pregnancy for the next year or two. In the infected parts of the world there also has been a heavy release of a new genetically modified mosquito that cross-breeds with the Tiger mosquito and ironically produces sterile offspring. Something smells wrong here. In this age of looking for conspiracies under every rock, we have to wonder if Zika is a real threat or something else.

The Fishbein Impact On The American Health System
Most Americans agree that the nation’s health system has degenerated into a high-cost composite of radical surgeries, extensive torture treatments and a quagmire of prescription medications that have been big business for the medical providers. It didn't have to happen the way it did. Royal Rife invented a device in the 1930's that used sound frequencies to kill specific bacteria or virus and thus cure almost every disease known to man. Dr. Morris Fishbein, head of the American Medical Association, stopped him cold.

The Great Mental Health Hoax
With so many public shootings occurring there is a lot of talk in Washington about gun control. Also the subject of mental health screening has been batted around once again. A form of public metal health screening called Teenscreen was tried by the Bush Administration. It was quickly found to be a failed and fraudulant program and was shut down in 2012. Too many young people were improperly classified as suffering from some form of mental illness. But the concept remains implanted in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and thus the blueprint exists for mass mental health screening to rear its ugly head once again.

Has The Ultimate Bacteria Been Found?
Bible students have always been perplexed by the Old Testament genealogies that claim ultra-long life spans for the first recorded humans. For example, Adam was said to have lived 930 years. Methuselah lived even longer, topping out at 969 years. Was there some special reason people lived such long lives? Were the Bible stories incorrect? How could this period of time when people allegedly lived such long lives have happened? Russian scientist Anatoli Brouchkov, head of the Geocryology Department at Moscow State University, may have found the answer to these age old questions.

Why Are We Worried About Measles?
Remember last winter’s measles scare? News story after news story told of the spread of the measles virus breaking out in various parts of the U.S. after some infected person went to Disneyland in Los Angeles and infected a lot of people. Yes, measles is highly contagious. But it used to be such a common disease we once considered it part of childhood. Every kid was expected to come down with measles in those early years. Catching the measles meant a few uncomfortable days of staying in bed, trying not to scratch the itching red blotches that broke out all over our skin, and waiting until the disease ran its natural course. Rarely did we have complications. And the great thing about catching measles when we were young . . . we were declared immune from ever catching measles again for the rest of our lives.
Baffling Kalachi Sleeping Sickness
The residents of Kalachi, a small town in Kazakhstan, are contending with a strange sleeping sickness that also steals their memories. First occurring in 2010, the disease has been intensifying, causing people to drop by the hundreds in the past year. When stricken, victims might sleep for periods of two to six days straight. When they awaken, they experience significant loss of memory, medical people report.

Cannabis; God’s Great Gift To Humanity
There are days when the joints in my body ache so bad I find myself reaching for the pain pills prescribed by my doctor rather than rely on ibuprofen or other over-the-counter pain relievers. As I gulp down the pills and wait for the relief they will bring, I am fully aware that the "medicine" in them is also attacking my liver, my kidneys, and other vital organs. I am also aware that there is a simple and inexpensive alternative to this pain problem, and that it is probably growing secretly in a basement, house or farm nearby. But to get my hands on it could subject me to assault by agents for the United States Government.
Getting Our Morning Poison
Short of possibly slipping in the shower, few of us consider ourselves in any danger when we go through our morning grooming routine preparing for a new day. That is because we are not chemists. We probably have little idea what that long list of chemical names on the back of our shampoo bottle, our mouthwash bottle, and the toothpaste tube consists of, or what these things might do to us if ingested, or merely rubbed on our skin.
Why Modern Medicine Remains in the Stone Age
Cures for cancer and a host of other deadly diseases have been known for a very long time in the United States. The story behind this "secret" is so ugly most people may find it hard to believe anyone would purposefully do something so evil.

The Great Codex Alimentarius Conspiracy
The battle to control big profits by the health insurance and health care industry has dominated the news in the United States almost since President Barack Obama first stepped foot in the White House. What few people realize is that what is happening in the US is only the tip of a massive iceberg kind of a conspiracy linked to something known as Codex Alimentarius, a global plan hatched within the United Nations to establish controls on the production, sale and use of food, food supplements, vitamins and minerals everywhere.
