In a team sport, receiving an individual award is not always fair. So for me, this is not my award, it’s our team’s award because of the job we have done this month.

The LMA has awarded Marta Tejedor with The FA Women’s Super League Manager of the Month trophy, following Blues outstanding performances in April.

Tejedor and her side secured three wins against Everton, West Ham United and Liverpool, to keep their hopes of a WSL top three finish alive.

On receiving the trophy from Thomas Lyte, Tejedor said: “I'm really happy, it's very important. But also in a team sport, receiving an individual award is not always so fair. So for me, this is not my award, it’s our team’s award because of the job we have done this month."

Blues' final game is at Yeovil Town Ladies on Saturday (12.30pm) and Tejedor said a strong finish to the season was important.

“You always want to go on your holidays with a big smile and we also have to think of our summer recruitment process, so if players see we are finishing the season strongly, they may be tempted to come with us next season.”

Tejedor admitted that since her appointment in January, she has had to adjust.

"It hasn't been so easy. I have never joined a team in the middle of the season before, although the situation of the team was good.

"It was a culture shock, weather shock, language shock, food shock! It's not easy to change your whole environment, going to a different place.

"But I am enjoying it and I am in the process of it getting easier and easier."

Chair of the League Managers Association panel Marieanne Spacey-Cale outlined the reasons for Tejedor's honour: “Birmingham's away record this season has been very impressive, and this continued throughout April with important wins at West Ham and Everton.

"They rounded their month off brilliantly with a convincing 2-0 win against Liverpool, to give themselves a chance of competing with Chelsea for third place.

"Marta deserves full credit for the way in which her Birmingham City squad has finished the season so strongly. It's clear that she has adapted quickly to the WSL and will be looking forward to taking this momentum into the final game against Yeovil and into next season."

In The FA Women’s Championship, the League Managers Association has presented the April Manager of the Month award to Manchester United manager Casey Stoney.

This award is Stoney's third Manager of the Month trophy of her debut season as a manager.

Manchester United secured The FA Women's Championship title with three emphatic victories in April, scoring 17 goals without reply, as they defeated Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Millwall.
