Preliminary remarks:If you just want install on a empty device, without any personal data on any harddisk inside the device, go forward to step: Get Antergos. If you have personal data on any installed devices it is strongly advised to backup your data on external media! If you want to install a dualbooting system with another OS preinstalled on your device follow the Wiki here: Dual Boot Install with Windows installed Dual Boot with MAC-Book For all installation scenariosit it is necessary to inform yourself about the hardware installed into your device, and to investigate if problems can occur. In addition, you should deal with the already created partitions and the installed hard disks in the system in order to avoid the wrong disk / partition to delete.
Create USB boot media:use dd to get the iso without a huzzle:
sudo dd bs=4M if=/path/to/antergos-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdX status=progress && synconto a usb stick. (sdx have to replaced by the device name of your usb-stick, you can find out by the command fdisk -l) For more information read the wiki entry: create-a-working-live-usb On Windows try etcher it is insane easy to use: Attention: It is recommended to use this two ways to "burn" ISO to usb-stick! as most other tools will may do changes to the ISO that harm the bootup!
Bios or UEFI?The ISO-Installer offers automatic boot options for both systems legacy Bios and up-to-date EFI/UEFI. If you want to create a dual boot system together with a preinstalled windows OS read here first: how-to-dual-boot-antergos-windows-uefi-expanded
On a Bios system:you can just fire your machine up and press [F12] to get the boot device menu, where you can choose the USB stick as boot device. In this section i will only follow installation that will erase a a whole hard drive, manual partioning will be handled in another wiki entry! Now you will get the boot menu screen and you can choose your language by pressing [F2], choose the one you want and press [enter]. From the boot menu choose Start Antergos Live simple pressing enter and the Live Iso Installer will boot to the Live Environment: On the first screen you will see an overview of thinks that needed, plus information if any possible package issue: If all is O.K. here next is to choose your language and keyboard settings: Followed by Timezone, what was probably already recognized: And there you are: Now you have to choose your DE (Desktop Environment) Base: will install only Base System without any graphical Login or DE, if you want to run a Server or to install an DE not aviable at the installer. Cinnamon: Gnome 2 - forked from Gnome Shell Deepin: Deepin Technology Co GNOME: Gnome 3 aka Gnome-Shell KDE: Plasma is the KDE workspace Mate: continuation of GNOME 2 OpenBox: extremely standards compliant WM Xfce: a light-wight but complete DE After making your choice you will be prompted to choose extra options you may need: Per default you will have the common options aviable: Advanced users can enable more options on the bottom of the slide, it is recommended to choose this ones with caution!
A list of all aviable options:AUR: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository Will configure system to enable support to build packages from AUR PKGBUILD. Note: All AUR PKGBUILDS are only provided by users and also maintained by them, and not official supported in any way by Antergos and Archlinux itself! That mnean using them can cause issues and can harm your system, as some may install unusual stuff or needs to uninstall packages because they need other versions e.t.c. Recommandation here is to only install from AUR if you realy need it, and uninstall if not needed anymore. Take care to track changes on this PKGBUILDS at their comments on AUR page of the builds. Bluetooth: enable bluetooth service with systemd at bootup, and install needed software. Chromium: is an open-source web browser project started by Google, to provide the source code for the proprietary Google Chrome browser. Firefox: is a free and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation Flash: Adobe Flash Player is freeware software for using content created on the Adobe Flash platform. LTS-Kernel: Long term support (LTS) Linux kernel and modules from the core repository. LibreOffice: Free Office Suite, open-source and rich in features. Printing: enables Cups service to run on bootup and install some software for most common printers SSH: OpenSSH connectivity tool for remote login with the SSH protocol, enabled with systemd on bootup and install needed software. Steam + PlayOnLinux: Play Steam Games on Linux, PlayOnLinux is a piece of software which allows you to easily install and use numerous games and apps designed to run with Microsoft® Windows®. Firewall: Gufw - A very user-friendly way to manage your Firewall, powered by ufw. Vivaldi Browser: a freeware, cross-platform web browser developed by Vivaldi Technologies You will get some info about each selectable item, by holding your mouse over it (hoover Info): Now it becomes dangerous! we will proceed with choosing the space to install the system: The most easy scenario is to use a whole disk, and you do not have any personal data or another OS you will dualboot together with Antergos. Then you can choose: Erase disk and install Antergos and press the arrow to go forward. If you need encryption to secure a mobile machine read here: Antergos WIKI encrypted OS (will follow) Second option is that you want to install Antergos onto a second HD (disk) inside your system, and you have another OS onto the first disk, then you have to take care to choose the right disk on the next screen, and choose the right disk also for the bootloader: After a warning message, you reach the user account settings: We are ready! the last one is the installation summery Installation will start and you can see the progress. When ready a message will popup, and you can reboot to your Antergos installation.
On EFI/UEFI:As most EFI UEFI systems are very different in what you can change and how you setup anything it is hard to give the "ONE" trick here, but mainly what you need is to disable secure boot, because this is what make it possible to boot up the USB Installer and get into the installing Environment.
- disable secure boot into the firmware (EFI-BIOS)
- make sure if you where booting in UEFI/EFI mode and it is not so that may another OS is already installed in Legacy Bios/MBR mode!
