Yes, it’s true: Kris Aquino did admit on national television that she and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista were dating but, in fairness to her, she didn’t categorically say that they were going steady. As Kris emphasized, they were “a work in progress” with the apparent blessing of Kris’ Kuya P-Noy who was shown in an Instagram photo (promptly deleted) having dinner with his sisters, nephews and nieces on Malacañang... and Kris and Herbert. In Singapore last week of March when we attended the Amazing Spider-Man 2 junket and the Earth Hour event, Kris said that she was impressed with Herbert because, of all the guys who ever courted her, it was only Herbert who asked Pres. Noynoy Aquino’s permission to go out on dates with her. Unfortunately, Stupid Cupid must have missed his mark. Things went pffft before they could take off. It was an abortive romance, dubbed Kristek by the movie press, a “stopover” sort of in Kris’ long-winding search for The One, and not “forever” as she hoped it would be. It was a work that didn’t progress, trashing speculation that everything was “politically-motivated” even if Kris insisted that she didn’t have any political plans for 2016 whether national, regional or local, although she added that she wasn’t sure yet what would happen in 2019. Herbert is on his third and last term as QC mayor and he’ll surely run for reelection, with an eye on the Senate in 2019. Eric encouraged Zsa Zsa to move on -More than a month after The STAR broke the story about Zsa Zsa Padilla having found a new boyfriend (in the person of architect Conrad Onglao, said to be a “lady killer,” whatever that means), Inquirer’s Thelma San Juan did a follow-up last Sunday, confirming what everybody has been talking about, adding the fact that it was Zsa Zsa’s BFF (Best Friend Forever) Sharon Cuneta who introduced Zsa Zsa to Conrad (the architect of Sharon’s house). Zsa Zsa and Conrad match. She has been a widow for almost two years after Dolphy, her partner for almost three decades, died in July 2012. Conrad’s own marriage has been annulled. She has two grown children and so does he. They are beyond child-bearing age and, like Boots Anson-Roa and lawyer King Rodrigo (who are getting married on June 14), perhaps Zsa Zsa and Conrad are looking forward to the pleasure of each other’s company at his, according to Thelma’s story, well-appointed place with a sweeping view of the metropolis. As I’ve been saying, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino is a veritable newsmaker. All she does is sneeze and, voila(!), she hits the headlines. We’re all asking: What happened? Why did a “promising” romance end so soon? Did an unseen hand nip it in the bud? Was “forever” not enough?

The situation is simply much too complicated. Kris has two sons, Joshua and Bimby; while Herbert has five by two women, neither of whom he married, although his current partner (in private and in politics) Tates Gana, who has stuck with him for almost two decades as the wind beneath his wings, is generally accepted as Q.C.’s First Lady. With his marriage to James Yap annulled, Kris is legally single again.

Besides, with the eyes of the media (nay, the world!) fixed on them, Kris and Herbert couldn’t simply move freely around, so you can imagine how paranoid they could be. They contented themselves with having quiet dinners at Kris’ place, never in a fancy restaurant.

Funfare learned that it was Herbert who gave up, forced into it no doubt by the unpleasant write-ups against him. Uhm, his loss, not Kris’? Definitely!

Well, I guess Kris can easily find Mr. Right…sooner than later.

During a brief chat with Bimby in Singapore, the highly-intelligent boy said that he allowed his mom to have a boyfriend as his Christmas gift to her in 2013, “so she would be happy.” Asked what his Christmas gift to Mom Kris in 2014 will be, Bimby said, “A new boyfriend!”

That’s your cue, Kris.

Maybe the “new boyfriend” is just around the corner.

What many people don’t know is that it was Zsa Zsa’s stepson Eric Quizon who encouraged Zsa Zsa to donate Dolphy’s things so she could move on. “Otherwise,” Eric told Zsa Zsa, “kung parati mong makikita ang mga gamit ni Daddy, hindi ka makaka-move on. Malay mo, once you start moving on, you might find somebody that you like.”

That’s just what Zsa Zsa did. After she met Conrad, Zsa Zsa told Eric (whom she fondly calls Kaizz), “Tama ka!”

Zsa Zsa and Eric decided to entrust Dolphy’s things (packed in 60 boxes) to Joey Luna for him to select what could be displayed in a planned Dolphy Museum in Quezon City.

Tippy sings the Dyesebel theme song

The voice behind Tangi Kong Kailangan, theme song of the Kapamilya primetime show Dyesebel, is none other than Tippy Dos Santos. The song was composed by Francis and Carla Concio specially for the series.

It was also Tippy who interpreted Dati, the grand-prize winner of the 2013 Philippines Popular Music Festival (Philpop), together with Sam Concepcion.

Well, as clarification, Kris did tell the whole world several weeks ago that she had “no sex life” that’s why she was blessed. In fact, as she also told Funfare in an interview (was it two years ago?), she had been happily celibate (that was after she broke up with husband, now her “ex” James Yap).

In a text reply to Funfare’s inquiry yesterday, Kris said, “You even reminded me before that the word you used was ‘chaste’.” Adding that, beyond that, she’d rather keep mum (but for how long?).

There. Kris claimed to be “chaste” and that should put any pregnant rumor to rest.

Meanwhile, stand by for Kris’ “important announcement” once the MERS-COV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus) danger is over.

Megan in US for charity

2013 Miss World Megan Young will again be back in the US for several charitable events. This visit will be weeks before she graces the 116th Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York on June 1 with an expected turnout of more than 100,000 Fil-Ams.

Megan is headed north to Harvard University Loeb House on May 16 for a cocktail reception celebrating her charity “Beauty with a Purpose” benefiting children worldwide and specifically the Yolanda survivors. The event encourages and supports efforts that inspire a difference in the lives of children. TGIF Boston (Thank God I’m Filipino) and Cambridge Fil-Am Group (CFAG) cordially invite the Filipino-American community in Massachusetts and surrounding New England states to the event which will begin at 8 p.m., Friday, in the Ballroom at Loeb House, Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts. Food magazine of ABS-CBN Publishing cited the 75-year-old Kamuning Bakery and its famous pugon-baked pandesal among its “8 Most Loved Pinoy Breads.” GMA 7’s Gandang Ricky Reyes TV show recently also featured Kamuning Bakery as a favorite of celebrities, artists, intellectuals, past presidents and food lovers since 1939. Ricky Reyes was shown on TV baking old-style Filipino pastries and cakes. In December 2013, international model and TV host Jason Godfrey featured Kamuning Bakery’s circa 1939 pugon or wood-fire brick oven for AXN channel and he pugon-baked pandesal breads for TV.

The late top food critic Dr. Doreen Fernandez wrote in her book Palayok: “The Kamuning Bakery also bakes traditional biscuits — camachile; otap; biscocho Iloilo, which we Ilonggos call biscocho de caña; Aglipay; favorita; sultan; ogoy-ogoy; pulseras; galletas. And colored meringue, taisan, ensaimada. Kamuning Bakery has added a café area for breakfast and the best brewed coffee from organic fair-trade farms in Sagada of Mountain Province, also Batangas and Cavite. Tungkol kay Derek, sinabi ni Kris na walang namamagitan sa kanila. Kung nakikita man daw silang lumalabas, iyon ay dahil magkatrabaho sila ngayon sa isang binubuong pelikula.

"I don't think I'm in a position right now para mag-entertain ng anybody because I'm not ready," ayon pa kay Kris. "AndI don't want people to think also na parang nagpalit lang ng sapatos."

'They can burn me'

Binalewala naman ni Kris ang pagsunog sa kaniyang effigy ng ilang magsasaka ng Hacienda Luisita na nagprotesta sa Department of Agrarian Reform nitong Huwebes dahil sa huwad umanong pamamahagi ng lupa ng hacienda.

Giit ni Kris, hindi na siya board member ng hacienda.

"I was a member of the azuca...the mill pero I left kasi hindi ko ma-attendan [attend] yung meetings. So my sister Viel took over," natatawa niyang paliwanag.

Patuloy pa niya, "Alam ko na 'pag sinusunog sunog ka, humahaba ang buhay mo kaya okey lang 'keri.' And it's part and parcel of life...I must be in a good place right now so they can burn me go ahead." -- FRJ, GMA News
