Scholarship for Service (SFS) Program: Strengthening the National Cyber Security Workforce


PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
Only U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The scholarship program will support undergraduate students toward the completion of their final year of undergraduate study (48.5K per year) and two years of the M.S. in Information System and Security Management (ISSM) program and graduate students (60K per year) for two years of M.S. in Information System and Security Management (ISSM) program.

  • Full-time tuition. 
  • Provision of academic-year stipends of $22,500 per year for undergraduate students and $34,000 per year for graduate students.
  • A health insurance reimbursement allowance up to $2,000 per year.
  • A professional development allowance up to $4,000 for SFS Job Fair and other travel, professional certification etc. 
  • A book allowance up to $1,500 per academic year.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

       Undergraduate (3-year program towards M.S.)

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Residents (not dual, not an alien from a country on the state-sponsored terrorism list from the state department).
  • Rising senior in CS or related degree.
  • One year undergraduate + two year graduate (M.S.).
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale in their major.
  • Demonstration of legitimate interest in, and commitment to, pursuing IA-related careers after graduation.
  • Compliance with all program requirements, including US citizenship or permanent residence and eligibility for US Government security clearance.
  • OPM verification.

      Graduate (2-year graduate program towards M.S.)

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Residents (not dual, not an alien from a country on the state-sponsored terrorism list from the state department).
  • Senior students in CS or related degree from an ABET accredited institution.
  • One year undergraduate + two year graduate (M.S.).
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale in their major.
  • Demonstration of legitimate interest in, and commitment to, pursuing IA-related careers after graduation.
  • Compliance with all program requirements, including US citizenship or permanent residence and eligibility for US Government security clearance.
  • OPM verification.

PROGRAM OBLIGATIONS:

  • Participate in SFS Introduction Session
  • Complete courses in the curriculum and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Conduct research under the guidance of a faculty mentor assigned by PI/Co-PI during semester
  • Undergo at least one professional certification training
  • Participate in at least one security competition, such as SECCDC and National Cyber League
  • Assist with cybersecurity related technical training activities
  • Join ISSA and InfraGuard
  • Serve as a mentor in at least one of these programs, SFS student ambassador program, Community Internship program, TU CyberSecurity organization, NSBE, SWE, IEEE, ACM, ACM Middle-SE, and etc. 
  • Participate in summer internship/research programs
  • Attend at least 2 conference related to cybersecurity education/research/professional development
  • Attend SFS Job Fair and other cybersecurity related Career/Job Fairs
  • After graduation, MUST serve at a federal, state, local, or tribal government organization or national labs in a full-time cybersecurity position for a period equivalent to the length of the scholarship or one year, whichever is longer. 

APPLICATION PROCESS:

  • A statement of purpose (1-2 pages) detailing my interests and experience in cyber security, my broader career goals and how participation in the Scholarship for Service Program and working for the gevernment will help achieve these goals;
  • Current resume that includes work experience, key skills, honors/awards, extra-curricular activities, etc;
  • Official transcript(s) from all the colleges and universities attended;
  • Three letters of reference (at least one letter must be from a faculty member and the rest from other faculty members or employers);
  • Commitment to work for the federal government for two (for 2-year program students) or three years (for 3-year program students) upon completion of the CyberCorps: SFS program;

  • Complete CyberCorps: SFS (Scholarship Track) Service Agreement;

MAINTAINING SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:

      Undergraduate (3-year program towards M.S.)

  • Full-time student (no other employment).
  • Graduated with a minimum of 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale in heir major (once in MS program, graduate student criteria will be applied).
  • Complete their assigned research and learning activities.

      Graduate (2-year graduate program towards M.S.)

  • Full-time student (no other employment).
  • Graduated with a minimum of 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale.
  • Complete their assigned research and learning activities.
