Six eFactory sites to be housed in retail spaces

Local business start-up consultant Peter Burns III has announced he has struck a deal to locate work spaces for budding entrepreneurs in six cities: Gilbert, Chandler, Goodyear, Las Vegas and Dallas. Burns said he signed an agreement to locate the eFactory sites at retail holdings developed by Greenstreet Properties, based in Scottsdale.

The first eFactory will be in 8,000 square feet of space at the Shops at Val Vista, 2582 Val Vista Drive in Gilbert. It is expected to open in 90 days following tenant improvements that will include the latest concepts in workspace design, according to Burns.

About 80 entrepreneurs will be able to lease space that includes access to attorneys, tech support, Web site designers, accountants, lenders and insurance agents. The concept and its workout has happened suddenly.

"I didn't even think about this idea until eight weeks ago," Burns said.

He discussed the concept then at an Club E event, a social networking model for entrepreneurs which Burns also started, prompting action from the audience. They called people in the development and property management business.

"I got 35 calls from (property) owners in town. The whole thing just snowballed," Burns said.

The deal that stuck, however, was with Greenstreet Properties, which has built numerous neighborhood retail centers in the Valley, Nevada and Texas.

Burns said he never considered building incubator space in a retail complex, but the concept makes perfect sense in that it could draw foot traffic on behalf of entrepreneurs located in the eFactory property.

The eFactories will include educational and training spaces, Burns said, that could be open to the public.

"The timing couldn't be more propitious," he said, meaning that the eFactory debut is some good news at a time when a economic catastrophe is brewing on Wall Street.
