SANDUSKY, Ohio – Riders on Cedar Point’s GateKeeper roller coaster found themselves stuck on the ride Wednesday night.

A GateKeeper car failed to complete one of the track’s hills at about 9:30 p.m., leaving the ride swinging back and forth like a pendulum for nearly two minutes near the park’s front entrance.

The malfunction was the result of heavy winds, Cedar Point told Cleveland.com in an email. The ride’s safety systems engaged, and all riders managed to get off the ride without injury.

Another car climbing the lift hill during the malfunction was stopped, allowing riders to safely exit the roller coaster, Cedar Point spokesperson Tony Clark said.

A video of the incident was posted to Facebook by user Shannon Drown-Ebeling. It features several reactions from passers-by who witnessed the ride’s technical failure.

The GateKeeper opened in 2013. It was named one of the amusement park’s top 10 roller coasters by The Plain Dealer’s Susan Glaser.
