`NUTCRACKER' KEEPS CHELSEA ON HER TOES

CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Macaulay Culkin isn't the only celeb kid doing "The Nutcracker" this season. First Kid Chelsea Clinton has been cast in the Washington Ballet's production of the dance.

Chelsea is in Act I, playing the part of Favorite Aunt in the party scene. "Chelsea is a student here, so she's pretty much here five days a week - if her schedule allows," Judy Keyserling says. Keyserling is director of marketing for the Washington Ballet, which is both a professional dance company and a ballet school.

She says Chelsea "is a very good student." Chelsea is just one of more than 100 kids who will be in the ballet. Her part rotates, so she won't be in the show every night. (And the company won't tell what nights Chelsea is scheduled to perform.)

"We're not promoting it or making a big deal of it," Keyserling says.

Don't expect the First Kid to follow the typical rules, however. When the ballet directors were telling students how to wash their costumes, Chelsea apologetically answered, "The problem is I don't do my own laundry." (Gee, do you think dad does it?)
