The Legendary San Siro Stadium Is Getting Demolished

The iconic San Siro stadium will be getting demolished and replaced with a new modernised ground that will be shared by both Inter and AC Milan.

AC have been extremely keen on the idea of having a new, improved stadium for a while now, with Inter initially hesitant before they soon became onboard with the project.

And today the news has been confirmed by AC Milan chairman Paolo Scaroni, who says the new 60,000 capacity stadium will be situated right next to the site of the old, legendary one.

The two Milan clubs will now submit design plans to the city council and would continue playing at the San Siro until the new £630 million facility is ready for the 2022/23 season if all goes well.

As per the Daily Mail, that construction work will party take place below street level to minimise the amount of pollution and litter around the area.

Built in 1925, the famous Stadio Giuseppe Meazza has hosted some of the all-time great games. From four European Cup finals to six games at the 1990 World Cup, this venue is steeped in history.

However, despite the aura it commands, Inter and AC are moving with the times. Italian publication La Repubblica say that Atlanta United's futuristic Mercedes Benz Stadium, a venue that has hosted the Super Bowl, is believed to be an inspiration for the new project.
